Music Monday:

Music MondayThe-Weeknd

For the past two weeks when I’m driving I’m tuned in to my  local radio station; it’s really the only time that I get a chance to listen to the radio, and at first my relationship with this song started from, “ooh,  that’s a catchy song” to “ooh; they are playing that catchy song again, then it progressed to, “seriously how many time are they gonna play this song in an hour, to “Is this the only song that they play, to where we are now; “If I hear this song one more time I’m going postal” Touted as the “feel good song of the summer” is really becoming the earworm that wont go away”

And what I thought was a catchy love song turned out to be a catchy song about drug abuse, yet this song still remains in my head, I guess it has a lot  to do with the super easy lyrics

So according to How Stuff Works, this is simply an issue with my auditory cortex

the participants’ auditory cortex automatically filled in the rest — in other words, their brains kept “singing” long after the song had ended . The only way to “scratch” brain itch is to repeat the song over and over in your mind. Unfortunately, like with mosquito bites, the more you scratch the more you itch, and so on until you’re stuck in an unending song cycle.

There are many other theories about why songs get stuck in our heads. Some researchers say stuck songs are like thoughts we’re trying to suppress. The harder we try not to think about them, the more we can’t help it. Other experts claim that earworms are simply a way to keep the brain busy when it’s idling . Just as there are many theories, there are many names for the phenomenon. It’s been called everything from “repetunitis” to “melodymania.”

So pretty much they’re saying that I screwed and there is nothing that can help me get this darn song out of my head. And I guess the only way I can get this one out of my head is to find a better one….. at the moment  Luhan’sThat Good Good” seems to be a really good contender; hopefully my next Music Monday I’ll write about a song I really like instead of one that has taken me hostage and won’t let me go.

“And I know she’ll be the death of me, at least we’ll both be numb And she’ll always get the best of me, the worst is yet to come But at least we’ll both be beautiful and stay forever young”

“Can’t Feel My Face” can be found on The Weekend’s latest album  Beauty Behind The Madness  on iTunes and Spotify

It’s been 20 years since their last album, “The Show, the After Party ,the Hotel” (although “Diary of a Mad Band”, in my opinion is one of the best R&B albums EVER!) And I stanned this group like people stan EXO or Hansen….

The Past, The Present, The Future was released and honestly I didn’t think too much of it there have been so many  whispers about a Jodeci reunion I never took them seriously, and after I saw Jo-Jo on VH1 “Couples Therapy” I was like, this is a hot mess (that entire season was  hot freakin’ mess… I highly suggest you watch it.. for the Courtney Stodden factor), they aren’t coming back anytime soon. Let’s be honest one or more of them have been drugged out, boozed out, lifed out and after I while I just wrote them off and figured they would ride into obscurity like a lot of groups from the 90’s.

One thing that Jodeci has been known for is their “baby making songs” and this album serves of several. I think the thing that surprised me the most about this album was there wasn’t any surprises…. this album ‘and the songs) could have gone on any of their previous albums… and I like that because it makes it seem like little or no time has passed. When the album my first thought was, “please don’t tour…. please don’t come to Chicago….. I’m too old to be screaming and yelling and acting a fool” (I would still totally do it…. shame be damn)

Now let’s talk about this video, first things first I was reminded that Devante had a damn face tattoo.. let’s all take a mental pause,  what goes through your mind when you decide to get a face tattoo, certainly, “this I gonna look hot when I’m 70” is not one of them. Second it was cold and there was snow,  you want to me attempt to be sexy and sing in the snow and cold; I can barley stand the 10 minutes it takes to warm my car up. Third (this is gonna be slightly mean) but Jo-Jo looks like that old freaky guy from church that tries to hit on the young girls.. (they haven’t aged well at all…. that’s what drugs and hard living do to you) Fourth what the hell is that on Dalvin’s head it looks like a furry albino pig (I hope it’s fake) Yeah so overall I wasn’t all that impressed with the video, but let’s be honest their videos haven’t every really been anything to write home about. and since their too old  to dance, I guess a winter mountain scene is the best we’re gonna get.

Despite my grumbling I’m glad that their back, I hope that they have some success (althogh I doubt that they will ever have the level of fame that they had back in the 90’s) and hopefully more music will come out before they decide to take another extended hiatus, all in all there is nothing wrong with a little nostalgia..

Every Moment can be found on Jodeci’s latest album  “The Past, The Present, The Future”

Music Monday: Wasted on You

nj

Back in the comfort of my own home, Music Monday continues. What I’ll do is go to my iTunes and randomly pick a song and tell my dear readers why it’s in my collection and why I like it…. this should be pretty interesting since I have a pretty eclectic collection of music….

This week the random song seemed fortuitous since this came in m email a few days ago, They always seem to visit Chicago during the warmer months…and the last time I saw them was when they toured as NKOTBSB (which in my opinion was EPIC!)

1

“Wasted On You” comes from NKOTSB’s sixth album 10. Not gonna lie, I purchased the album soon after it came out, but after hearing their first single Remix (I Like The) I was like screw that mess, and didn’t’ listen to it was at least 6 months (that’s how made I hated that single). The album is pretty much hit or miss in my opinion, but this song along with “Fighting Gravity” and “We Own The Night” are songs that I consider standouts (and frankly should have been singles).

I tend to like songs that I can find a connection to and boy does this one make a connection…. talk about finally breaking away from someone who is toxic and no good for you…..there is nothing worst than waisting your time, energy and love on someone who doesn’t deserve it.

Until Next Time….
