Writing Prompt: Write a new post in response to today’s one-word prompt – Bedtime

Bedtime… such a simply and foreign word. These days bedtime can happen anytime of the day, and doesn’t necessary require a bed, I have found in the past that couches and floors work just as well.

There used to be a time, (high school) when I had a very strict bedtime… that I enforced. I would be in bed by 10 up by 6am 5 days a week, and that was my schedule… and it worked well for me….until I went to grad school. Maybe it was the 2 part time jobs the internship and a full course load (not to mention my AI brewing…unbeknownst to me). But I sleep when my eyes were closed for more that 2 minutes, in my T.A office, in class, at work, everywhere. I would come home at around 9pm every night, eat, so a little work then go to bed, probably before midnight,  wake up around 3 or 4 am and wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep (I later found this time invaluable, because this is when I was able to do most of my research for my thesis) go back to bed around 6am, then wake up again around 8am and start my day.

These days are much like when I was in grad school, my sleep is very broken, except instead of research I’m wither watching YouTube videos, scrolling through Tumblr or knitting. It got so bad that I talked to my doctor about it and she  gave me a long list of ways to improve my sleep hygiene. I tried them all, I no longer turn on the computer (but I guess looking on my phone doesn’t help). I have been practicing (I’m going to use that term loosely) Qigong there is this breathing and swaying technique that I use and I swear it works I get very relaxed and am sleep in minutes.

But most days the problem isn’t going to sleep, it’s staying asleep and those 8 hours of sleep that everyone talks about seems like a mere memory, I’m doing good if I can get 4 hours of sleep.

25 Random Things About Tyra

Here are a few things in no particular order.

So this is the 2nd in the series of stuff I wrote on Facebook Notes, that I found amusing…. this was originally written in 2009 and I wanted to see if anything had changed…. recent comments will be in red…. enjoy a little randomness….
1.) I left my heart… and all of my belongings in Las Vegas. (I did, but my heart is here in Chicago, Las Vegas was nice, but it’s nice being closer to my family)
2.) The man I’m seeing I’ve known since I was 14 and is also an ex (does that make that a double negative)…? (Well now he’s a double ex)
3.) I can’t stand being in a house alone at night. (It’s not that I feel unsafe…. but I always hear every single sound and it slightly freaks me out. )
4.) I always wonder what people’s first impression of me is. (Thank goodness, I got over that nonsense…. what’s the saying, “What you think of me is non of my business” I can care less what people think of me,)
5.) All of my bestest friends live in other states…. (Not so true anymore)
6.) I love to watch stupid people… that’s why I watch reality shows (I always tell people, if you ever want to feel better about your life watch a reality show)
7.) I’m not pregnant… I swear…so stop asking me…. (Ouch, that hurts…. nobody ever asks me if I’m pregnant…maybe because I’ve been too open with my infertility issues)
8.) You find out who your real friends are when you’re lying in a hospital bed thinking your about to die. (Still true…)
9.) I think I’ve lost and gained about 400 pounds in my lifetime ( We can add another 80 or so that I’ve LOST)
10.) I think I cry about something at least once a day… I can’t help it I’m sap (YEP)
11.) I’ve had 3 livers … far more than anyone I know… (3 is my limit……no more liver transplant for Tyra)
12.) I don’t think I’ve had any job that incorporated any of the degrees I’m getting
13.) I confess… I am addicted to Facebook and Pogo ( Now its Facebook and Tumblr)
14.) What in the world possessed me to go back to school for my Ph.D.??? Seriously at 31 you would think I’d have enough of school. (That didn’t exactly work out… several years later, I’m wondering if I have the brain capacity to do it, I love learning but I’m sitting here with a Masters Degree and doing nothing with it, Seriously what’s the point of getting more indebt to pay for yet another degree I probably won’t ever use….. )
15.) Lots of the people I have befriended on Facebook have impacted my life in ways they will never know (yeah….)
16.) I used to imitate people I work with…especially my bosses…doing Donna was the best! (Oh My Goodness, she had this super WASPy New England accent….)
17.) There are a lot of people planning to come and visit me over the next three or four months…(Please I no longer liver in an exciting place, no one is coming to visit me)
18.) I used to belly dance… it’s really fun and entertaining…(It was fun, and as soon as I find another class I’m taking it… it’s excellent for the core)
19.) I’m afraid large bodies of water (See that’s the weird thing, I love the water, I find it very relaxing and centering, but at the same time I respect and fear it. I’m not a strong swimmer and I know that if I get distracted it will sweep me away… and I don’t want to die due to drowning)
20.) My favorite show on TV is Lost…. (Even after all this time, that show has left me f*cked up)
21.) I don’t say, “I Love You” nearly enough to the people I love (I say it all the time, it’s important to me, if they died tomorrow I want to know that they knew that I loved them. People always know unless you tell them…. so I do.)
22.) I get up and pee at least 4 times every night… which is probably why I don’t get a lot of sleep. (YES, this is still true…)
23.) I am so proud of my two younger brothers… they have turned into such fantastic men. (One is, well he’s okay, he’s in the awkward ManChild phase…. and it’s time for him to man up, and the other one will be a father this summer )
24.) I want to go back to Puerto Rico… who wants to come with me??
25.) I’ve lost and gained a lot of friends, but the ones that left weren’t here to stay and only made room for the ones who did.. (I think that will remain true for the rest of my life)

Voice Work

Writing Prompt: Your blog is about to be recorded into an audiobook. If you could choose anyone — from your grandma to Samuel L. Jackson — to narrate your posts, who would it be?

I knew if I stuck with this I wouldn’t have to actually write a post…. well that day has come people….. time for my first official REPOST!  with an update of course! The original post was published on September 11, 2014

My very first thought when I read the prompt was, Excuse me, my blog, my words, my voice” I know this blog, these are my experience so naturally I would be the best person to vocally convey my message to the public. ? But that it Tyra talking behind the computer… I am the worst public speaker, I  hate making YouTube videos.. just the idea of someone watching (or listening to me) is nerve racking.. so for that reason only I would hire a professional voice artist

So the person that I would hire would have to be (or sound ) like a total badass, has to be super confident and humble. If any of you have ever seem MTV’s version then you might be familiar with the actress who played Victoria Argent
(she was also in a ton of other stuff) …but what you don’t know is that she’s also a fantastic voice-over artist… defiantly would chose her… take a listen and see for yourself.

(click on the picture to hear her work)

So here is the update part…..Im not on twitter very often I got a message from Tumblr, but I do get notifications if I’m mentioned or if someone direct messages me this:

The scream people.. well it was pretty similar to this. I told everybody…. okay I told Facebook and now I’m telling you….

Human Resources …Coming to Pivot

What is this show about?

Documenting the non-stop and deadline-driven world of an innovative New Jersey-based company once touted as the “coolest little start-up in America,” “Human Resources” is a half-hour, comedy about an eccentric entrepreneur, Tom Szaky, and his team of employees at TerraCycle, a company whose mission is to eliminate waste on a global scale.  A 32-year-old businessman and Princeton University dropout, Tom’s multimillion-dollar company (which operates in 24 countries) takes anything and everything that is landfill bound – from potato chip bags to dirty diapers to cigarette butts – and recycles, up-cycles and transforms these objects into cool and functional new products. The Office is a crazy mix of hippies who enjoy kale chips and morning yoga… and older and more skeptical employees who find the younger staff to be a “bit naïve.” The one thing that the team has in common is a passion for their work and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get The Job done.

In episode one we find CEO Tom Szaky and TerraCycle are close to finalizing a deal for a coffee table book of DIY upcycling ideas but the team first needs to create a sample chapter. In preparation for a meeting with the publisher, Albe asks Dean to work on being more professional.

Episode 1 – Talkin’ Trash

Honestly I find this show hilarious… I’m not sue how I would feel working in that particular environment (for some reason I think it would smell just a little bit funny) but the employees make it what it is… and let’s me honest no matter where we’ve worked we all have dance when we need to a a rain dance. The show will premier Friday, August 8th at 10PM on Pivot TV
