Last week I wore this fantastic red from NOPI. I loved it… I mean seriously I loved it. Reds tend to me a little tricky for me, sometimes they come off easy, sometimes the stain…. but the removal process for this one was easy, I did have a bit of an issue around and on my cuticles, but that may have something to do with dryness in that area… oh and before I forget Sinful Colors are on sale for 99 cents this week at Walgreens and it seems that some of their Sally Hansen’s are on sale for 69 cents… actually they are having a lot of polish sales this week… so go forth and replenish your collections

20140915_151958When I first saw this nail polish I picked it up, then walked away and went back to shopping, but before I hit the register I went back to pick it up. It was one of those polishes that you see but aren’t sure about but later decide that you really like it…. this is that kind of polish.

Mauvelous is not a mauve at all, it’s more of a dark, murky gray-purple.… let’s be honest people it’s a dark Taupe… guess this is where the lovely people at Sinful Colors couldn’t come up with a pun filled named… I guess you can’t go around calling it Taupelous… don’t have the same ring to it… Ignore all of that Mauvelous is in fact a Mauve… for some reason I ALWAYS get the two confused (mauves and taupes)…. so kudos to you Sinful Colors…. you’re keeping the

It’s rare that I have an issues with Sinful Colors nail polishes and this one is no exception, I literally had no problems with this polish. The polish itself is so concentrated that I really could have had one coat and been done, but me ever the cautious person I applied two coats.

Usually Taupes and Mauves are colors that I don’t normally where, I’m working towards liking them, but but it seems like everyone I turn around it seems like what constitutes as a taupe or mauve polish seems to be expanding, and I tend to look better in the darker shades in the spectrum… but would this be considered a nude?

closeup

As you can see from the pictures posted, there is a slight change in the shade based on what type of lightening your in, but otherwise20140915_152010 the color is consistent and the color in the bottle is the exact  color that you will get on your nails, and for me that always scores high points, how many times have you purchased and applied a polish then realize it looks nothing like it did in the bottle. the photos were taken before a top coat was applied and there was a small amount of shine that if you’re not even into the “mega-shine”: this would be good for you. Wearing this polish I was thinking to myself that this would be a good polish if you are trying to work your way up to black without wanted to go “full on dead as night, goth black”.

20140915_152132

I put the nail polish in front of Tsuki and honestly she didn’t seem all that impressed, I have noticed that she really enjoys the bright colors, but it might be time for me to let her know that when the weather gets colder and, somber more darker colors are nice to wear…

Great application, pretty much a one coater, no need to a top coat… this sounds nearly perfect doesn’t it? Which is why Mauvelous is getting 10 out of 10. Ever since I returned from my blogging hiatus last summer it seems like my NPLC picks have been getting high marks, now I’m not sure if this has to do with being more comfortable with my nails and nail polish, or I’m letting go of some of the expectations that I’ve had with polish, or maybe I simple have had a streak of good luck and  if that’s the case… who knows when it might end *fingers crossed*

Nail Polish Lottery Club–Week 86

nail polish lottery club

Taking off last weeks pick Black Dahlia was a bit traumatizing, I almost chose not to participate this week because I was gonna redo my nails in the same color, I’m still really steamed that I didn’t take advantage and get the larger bottle when I had a chance, hopefully Missy will find a few bottles somewhere or decide to to a blast from the past sale (fingers crossed). Since this wasn’t a glitter the removal process was pretty straight forward, there was a bit of extra scrubbing though.

Week 86 Random Number is 33

20140803_215436Pragmatic is a lavender polish that has a fine, pearly shimmer running through it that’s actually visible in the bottle and on the nail.  In some lights this shade leans blue, The formula was very nice, and I used three coats here.  I could have used two, but with my nails being a little bit longer I am starting to use three. (there is no real change in shade between the second and third coats).  Not very long ago I would have seen this color and passed right by it, I was deeply afraid of dark colors, but once I copped off my nails I started experimenting with colors I normally didn’t wear and realized that I actually liked the look of them, now that my nails have grown back I’m glad that I still feel the same way.

20140803_215507

It’s rare that I find Sinful Shine at my local Walgreens, heck at this point I’m looking if I can located 20 Sinful Colors nail polish at my Walgreens, it’s seriously , seriously bare. Which is one of the reasons I didn’t participate in the 99 cent sale last week. But when I do find that rare Sinful Shine, (I think I found this one at the China Town location) I get it. (even if it looks really similar to something that I have). So shine 20140803_215208collections  claims to be “5x more glossy than a patented leather shoe”. when I hear that I want to prove them wrong. but alas I didn’t have a patented leather show… damn it!!  When ever someone asks me about this line In tell them it’s like you nail polish with a good coat of Seche Vite on top.. I’d rather get the regular version and add my topcoat or just wait until the next sale… since the price has been dropped to 1.99 these are also 99 cents during the sales. If you are unable to find Pragmatic in your local Walgreen stores, be on the lookout for it’s dupe “Tempest” also by Sinful Colors. For my accent nail I used China Glaze Create a Spark.

As far as nail wear I find that Sinful Colors, and most at home gel polish typically have the same life span as the regular polish, I’m fairly rough on my nails, because I type a lot so I’ll start to see wear on my tips in about 2-3 days, I haven’t had an issues with chipping though. The swatches were taken from the Sinful colors and China Glaze sites. As you can see from the swatch the color changes based on the lightening situation (although I still think their swatch is still a little dark.swatches

20140803_215535Tsuki is back this week, she has deemed this particular color, interesting and pretty… ask you can tell from the picture she seems very curious about how it would look on her paws. Because I it’s sinful Colors and it’s a pretty colors that can be used in multiple ways (as well as having no issues with application) I can’t help but give this polish high praise. Although it has gel technology it acted the same way as the regular formula, so I’m giving it an 8 out of 10. That whole 5 times shinier thing didn’t hold up..

I am on a hunt. I am on the hunt for Sinful Colors’ Beau Khaki, it’s got to be one of the mostdownload (1) inappropriate nail polish names that I have ever heard and I have decided that I need it! I need it in my life. I have seen it on eBay and Amazon and they want a lot of money for it. So if any of my readers find it at your local Walgreens, Wal-Mart or Target Store, let me know, I am willing to pay for the polish as well as the shipping…if worst comes to worst I will buy it on eBay (ugh!!)

Finally as a last ditch effort to take part of the Sinful Colors $.99 sale at Walgreens, I had to travel all the way to China Town and go to the Walgreen’s there to find some nail polishes, as I motioned last week, the two Walgreen’s near my house were tapped out, so to say that I happy with my meager selections was an understatement. I was only able to get four polishes… but I was still a very happy girl.

10177923_10152947061235995_3540332891539061912_n10153997_10152947061345995_46479762112317213_n

This color is part of Sinful Colors Bright Essentials Collections. One of my previous picks (and one of my favorite blue’s ) was also part of this  collection. I am making an effort of wearing more bright colors, and this one certainly fits the bill.

Dream on would be classified a bright violet (actually more of an orchid shade) polish with a satin finish; now I did look up this polish and some people actually said this polish had a matte finish.
The formula on this polish is a bit thin, so you will need at least 3 coats to get it opaque. Not gonna like, I almost gave up on this polish because it’s so thin, every time I would move my hand or try to polish another finger I would end up smudging the polish or it would find it’s way on my hand.  So take your time with this one. One thing that I learned about this polish is that it is notoriously hard to capture the true color of the polish so it may look different in the photographs in this post…even though they were taken while I was in the same position, and in the same amount of light. And word on the curb is that this polish is an exact dupe to Zoya’s Charisma

Collage

I gotta say, nothing say spring like a bright neon color and this one certainly hits the nail on the 20140428_145751head. I was concerned about this shade would look on me, but screw that… it looks fantastic on me! I will be honest I am having a hard time wrapping my head round this polish… it seems to be a bit of a chameleon some of the bottles are satin and some are matte… seems very strange.

I did want to do a little nail art, but I wasn’t;t in the mood do to anything time consuming… so dots were it. For this particular art (as you can see there is no rhyme or reason… which is the fun when you choose dots) I I used Sinful Colors20140428_153629 White on White and Endless Blue,,

Seems like Tsuki liked it, but I can only give it a 6 out 10! If I were to buy another bottle of this polish who’s to say it will be exactly the same… too many unknown variables for me. Have you ever tried this polish? Was your experience different than mine. Let me know in the comments below.

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 68

I would be remiss if I didn’t remind everyone that today is Earth Day which is really one of my favorite days…. here are some fun facts

  • The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970. 11
  • Earth Day originated in the US but became recognized worldwide by 1990.
  • On Earth Day 2009, Disney released a documentary film called Earth that followed the migration paths of four animal families.
  • On the very first Earth Day, 20 million people gathered in the streets of America to protest the industrial revolution. An environmental movement was born as a result.
  • Every year on April 22, men, women, and children collect garbage, plant trees, clean up coral reefs, show movies, sign petitions, and plan for a better future for our planet.
  • Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day while he was working as a US senator.
  • Earth Day was renamed officially by the UN in 2009 as International Mother Earth Day.
  • Some schools and communities celebrate Earth Day for a whole week to expand the time frame that people focus on the earth and how they can preserve it.
  • On Earth Day 2012, more than 100,000 people rode bikes in China to reduce CO2 emissions and save fuel.
  • In an Earth Day celebration in 2011, 28 million trees were planted in Afghanistan by the Earth Day Network.
  • In Panama, 100 endangered species of orchids were planted and maintained to prevent their extinction in honor of Earth Day.

And of course on the nail polish front to remind you of Zoya Earth Day Nail Polish Exchange

I was looking to try something new, lately I have been really unhappy with the polishes that Julep has come out with, so on a whim I signed up for Color Me Monthly  Color Me Monthly is a monthly nail polish subscription that sends out an affordable bottle of non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free polish in earth-friendly packaging. The subscription costs $7.00/month. The very first polish that I got was a creamy lavender 20140415_183737named, Chiffon; which is perfect for Easter/Spring and it was rather fortuitous that his popped up in my mail about a week ago

Whenever I am given a new polish that I’m not familiar with, I find myself filled with anticipation and dread. I really, really want the polish to work out but at the same time I am always expecting major disappointment.

The plan was to spotlight my CMM polishes the month they were mailed as an additional spotlight with my NPLC posts, but it didn’t work out that way this week… I guess the universe knew how eager I was to try this polish.
When I first sat this polish I thought that the bottle looks a little bit like an Essie bottle, but after close inspection I realized that the handle is longer, which is great for me..I tend to have a better experience with the polish if the handle is a little bit longer, so I went in blind with this polish, a new company, a totally new color for me… HOLY  COW!
I am a girl who takes her nail polish seriously, and I tend to be very fickle with my polish, and one small thing can set me off… so I was thinking maybe the brush would be wonky, the color would be thin… but nothing… there was NOTHING. I was instantly in love from the first coat; why because this polish is a true one coater….completely opaque once it hits the nail, you don’t come across many nail polishes that can do that.. and that alone gives this polish major points.

nplcCollage

So you know I had to check and see if maybe the color would change on the second coats, and as you can see from the photos above, it’s exactly the same; there isn’t any difference in the opacity of the color which tells me one thing, this polish is a great bargain because I’m not using as much on the nail…

When I went on instagram  to look at this month’s pick I only saw swatches of this polish on Caucasian women, I didn’t see any swatched of with any darker skin tones so I was concerned if the polish   darker skin tones; which you know is always20140415_183641 an issue with me, especially with lighter polishes.

I’m not sure if it’s the color or the fact that spring is (sometimes) here #BIPOLARWEATHER or simply the fact that Easter just passed but this color seriously takes me back when I wore white tights and pastel dresses with a serious petticoat. 30-year-old Tyra couldn’t get away with that look … but anyway back to the polish

The application of the polish was smooth and I had no issues at all with the brush. Overall I was really impressed with this weeks pick and look forward to future CCM mailings. I dont’ know that it is  but seriously it seems like third time is the charm, with the past two weeks scoring high this one breaks away and get’s a perfect score. This polish get’s a 10 out of 10! Ladies…run… run and go get this polish!

Until Next Time…
