Since nothing was  posted on the NPLC Facebook page last week and I made that post (unofficially week 101) This will be titled week 101 as well….20141209_193445_resized

With the new year coming in the next few days (and a time for celebrations) I’m happy that this week’s nail polish pick reminds me (slightly of fireworks) of fun and festive times. This week I’m wearing China’s Glaze’s Boo-Gie Down.

One of the reason’s why I’m so excited about this nail polish was because I got it on “Super Clearance” at Ulta; what’s “Super Clearance” you ask? Well the sales price was $0.97 as opposed to the normal $7.50… SUPER CLEARANCE! I’m sorry, I’m a frugal gal and when you see China Glazes for that price not only are you forced to get them (even if you are on a no buy) but you have to love it no matter what it looks like based on principal.

Now based on the name I would automatically assume that this is a Halloween polish (going to do polish research now………) Yep, it is… this polish is apart of China Glaze’s 2013 Monster’s Ball Collection (maybe they should consider renaming this polish and putting it in another collection; Sinful Colors does it all the time… This polish is chocked full of glitter, everything from Marco glitters to bar glitters … in in there all secured in a clear base. I will say that when I say this Halloween was the furthest thing from my mind, actually the very first thing I thought when I saw this was, “this would be the perfect polish for a Saint’s fan (which I am not one…. Go Pack Go!!!).

And yes I know that it’s a topper, but I’m wearing it alone, much like last week… look at me living on the 20141209_193012_resizededge…Now this could be for various reasons, it could be the fact that the nail polish is a little bit older (maybe why it’s on clearance… excuse me super clearance) or the fact that this polish is packed full of glitter but it was a tad bit difficult to apply this the way I normally do, so I was forced to use the “spackle” method… I simply had to tab it one until my nail was covered.

One of the reasons why I wanted to try this one on bare nails was partly I wanted to get  a feel for what this polish could do and the second one was, I had the hardest time trying to figure out what color to use for a base polish, I wanted to wear something where all the minute glitters on the polish would show;it wasn’t until after the polish was applied that I realized that it right look really good with one of my teal polishes (I guess I have to save that for next time)

This week Tsuki graciously allowed me to photograph her with the nail polish right as she woke, I think she’s excited that this is the last pick of the year.20141210_191944_resized

I loved it’s Despite the issues that I ha applying this polish I still really loved it, this nail polish now goes into a special category of nail polish I own called Celebration Polishes, and based on that  and the extraordinary amount of glitter in this bottle I can’t help but give it a favorable score. So Boo-Gie Down get’s an 8 out of 10!

China Glaze Boo-Gie Down retails for $7.50

Final Trio

Writing

Writing Prompt: For our final trio prompt of the year, write about any topic you wish, but make sure your post features a bookcase, something cracked, and a song you love.

4 days before Christmas and all threw the house not a creature was stirring, except for Tsuki, everyone was sleeping and she wanted a treat..but apparently the human hid them, which according to her was cruel and unusual punishment…

So she started looking in all the places that she thought her human would hide treats,, she looked on and inside the bookcase, but then got tired and took a rest in the shelves, as she stretched she silently thought to herself, “this would be an excellent napping spot if there wasn’t so many useless items on the shelves…. so she went about cleaning up the area and making a proper cubby spot fit for a princess, and Tsuki was using her paws to removes the useless items she cam across a bottle of nail polish and she simply pushed that off the shelf as well. When she looked down she realized that the bottle looked cracked, but she was positive that (since her eyes weren’t good as Tuski’s) she wouldn’t notice the crack.

The human ran into her room to see what all the commotion was about when she saw her things strewn across the floor, then all of the sudden a look of horror came on her face and she screamed, “My Seche Vite!!” apparently not only was the bottle cracked, it was completely broken and her beloved top coat was no more.

All I kept hearing was “Tsuki!!” and “Bad Girl” was she taking about me? Was I the bad girl?? How was that possible when I was trying to find the snacks that SHE HID then got distracted when I decided to make myself a new nap spot. She was so upset she turned on some music and started to listen to the song A.D.T.O.Y it’s one of her favorite songs. I think she might have been dedication the song to her top coat… who knows my human is a little weird. Maybe later I’ll make it up to her and allow her to rub me… but for now she’s still made at me, but at the end of the day I got what I wanted… my snacks…. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Since nothing has been posted on the NPLC Facebook page, I’m assuming that there is a break for a Christmas holiday, but I shall go on without them and this will unofficially be Week 101. As far as I’m concerned last week’s pick was a show stopper that was perfect for the holidays, and this week I picked another holiday inspired polish…

20141204_224549When I picked this nail polish I kind you not I sang the entire Frozen soundtrack… this is totally an Elsa nail polish, but alias Sinful Colors didn’t see it my way, despite my emails (I’m kidding on that one) and  named it Ice Dreams instead…. which I guess when you think about it suits it as well.

Ice  Dream is   a fine silver glitter polish with larger discs of turquoise glitter in it. Very glitzy, very wintery. One coat is almost entirely opaque,  obviously this glitter would look fantastic with a grey, white or light blue, but for the purpose of this post I simply used it alone… I wanted to get the full effect.

This is currently apart of the Holiday Wishes collection, (Formally of the Glitz and Glittered collection )I said currently as you know Sinful Colors add pr20141204_224506eviously released colors and place them in multiple collections, but I really like these, all Blues and Golds, and all something I would totally wear (hell I already own a few of them)

I tend to get nervous when I’m using glitters because they are so hit and miss they are either clump and hard to apply or in this case, applies smooth and even with little or no problems, the polish dried really fast and the glitter was nice and smooth to the touch; one of my pet peeves with glitter is when it’s bumpy only because it has a tendency to snag on my clothing.

Several days later I changed my mind, and wanted to see what it would look like with a base color and I honestly I’m not use which way I prefer, and it sort of gives you a different look, but since I’m partial to blue this one is a winner.

This week Tsuki graciously allowed me to photograph her with the nail polish while she was preparing to nap… such a generous feline, she doesn’t seem all that thrilled about it…. but who cares…

20141220_132651

I loved it’s polish and I love that you can create different looks with a different base polish, or you can wear it alone… and since it’s a winter themed and instantly reminded me of the movie Frozen I can’t help but give this polish a 10 out of 10 !

Sinful Color’s Ice Dream retails for $1.99.

20141111_200552Apparently it’s been several weeks since I participated in NPLC, Lots of things are happening, and with the cold weather my hands have been super dry, and after I removed polish I got 3 breaks one after the other (two happened on the same day) so this is the last time you’ll see me with longer nails for a while… I’m working with my winter nubs for the moment. Now let’s get to this week’s pick. Week 100… wow it’s a milestone and I think this weeks pick is the perfect celebratory polish.

Twilight Twinkles is a  clear base with gold shards, squares and holographic-ish strips. Thick the perfect gold thick and chunky glitter. It’s one of eight colors in the Holi-Dazzled Collection (Two are new; Galax-Sea and Twilight Twinkles, while the reaming polish come from other collections… seriously? )

Usually with solid color glitters I tend to pair them with black or white nail polish for that full effect of the polish can be seen, and honestly I love the effect that the black has with this polish, not to say that it can’t look good with any other polish (I have also found that this topper looks great with all of the polishes in this collection). I  When I first saw this polish thought of New Years Eve, then I remembered the name and thought, I guess it’s great for the entire holiday season (and beyond) and it sort of reminds me of lights on a Christmas tree… which I guess ties into the name.20141111_200608

I paired this polish with Wet N Wild Black Crème as the base nail polish, the topper is packed with glitter and I was preparing myself for major clumping  but when I applied the polish, it didn’t happen, the application was really smoothe and after two coats it dried quickly and I didn’t have any issues with all of the glitter not.  The only issue I has was that I felt like there were some part of my nail that had more glitter than others., but other than that there was no issues at all.

Not necessarily a work friendly polish, but this one is defiantly one you can pull out for fun times or when you need a little sparkle. This is defiantly one of those polishes that I would categorize as a show stopper, you know the kind of polish that everyone notices and you just have to look at it when it’s on your nails. This is generally around the time where I tell you to if there is a dupe, but honestly a great versatile look for under 2 bucks… you can’t beat that..

close up

This week Tsuki was more into the blanket than the nail polish, and to prove it she sat on the polish for most of the time she was lounging, does that mean she approved of this weeks pick? Who knows but I loved it, I love the versatility, the big gold chunks … EVERYTHING and that’s why this polish get’s a perfect score. A 10 out of 10!

Sinful Color’s Twilight Twinkles retails for $1.99.

Last week I wore L. A. Color’s Candy Sprinkles, I took it off several hours after applying it. I didn’t even realize I was taking it off until I had taken off nail polish from two nails…. with my teeth, was pretty effective, didn’t even require nail polish remover

20141108_190936After the shit show that was last weeks pick, I needed something that looked good on my nails good; and I certainly lucked out this. Week. This week’s pick was Sinful Color’s Prism

China Glaze (I keep wanting to write Sinful Colors, that tells me that I have way to many SC polishes) Prism, several months ago I was trolling the Sally’s clearance page and saw them, my very first thought was, “this looks like someone took crystals, smashed them until they were in powder form then added them to nail polish. It combines super-fine glitter “dust” along with larger glitter flecks.  It has a nice, purple-bluish tint when dry and shines like crazy. The company says, “Inspired by the colors formed by the refraction of light through a prism, Prismatic by China Glaze® combines glitter and holographic particles to create the ultimate eye-catching, 3-dimensional manicure”… whatever I still think 20141108_191003it looks like crushed up gems.

Because you have all of these glitters you would think that the polish would apply like a regular glitter polish, but that is simply not the case, I was surprised by how opaque even the first coat was.. and how smooth the polish was, two coats and I was able to get a nice even opaque look that was shiny and showed all the facets of the “prisim”

  • recommended to leave an interval of at least 2 minutes between coats to avoid any dragging
  • finished surface slightly rough, but easily smoothed over with at least one layer of top coat
  • formula flows quite easily without the usual suspension format of most glitter

One thing thing that I noticed right away was that due to the multifaceted nature of this nail polish, it looks quote different when you photograph it with and without flash, so sometimes it looks like a pink and other times it’s that blue-ish purple shade….I like the duality of the polish

Collage

This particular polish met and went beyond my expectations, because of the 10 out of 10!  Finally some redemption! Prism retails for $5.0020141108_191034

Tsuki seemed to like to too!
