My Life Through the Songs of Prince

Music Monday

Pick an artist, and using ONLY SONG TITLES from only that artist, cleverly (preferably) answer these questions. This is harder than it seems!
ADDITIONAL RULE: You cannot use the same artist I did, or duplicate song titles even if they were performed by another artist.

Ring Dong Ding

Writing

This Is Your Song: Take a line from a song that you love or connect with. Turn that line into the title of your post.

One day a south Korean idol group was sitting around a table trying to figure out  what to title a song, they figured it had a catchy beat and people would like it, but to only come up with a title that would catch people’s attention… I know, I got it ..let’s call it Ring Dong Ding!!! (Okay so that only happened in my mind, actually someone else wrote the song)

So I recently started using songs on my playlist as the music for my alarm, so for the past two days Ring Ding Dong has been waking me up, and it get’s me pumped for the day (well it didn’t work I Ring Ding Dong’d my way back to bed where I stayed all day).

Let’s me honest I’m a fan of the Auto-Tune,,,, no seriously I love it, probably one of the main reason’s why I have no problems turning up Believe or I Wanna Be You Man (why is all the music I lile slightly cringe-worthy.. ugh!!)

I don’t really have a connection to the song, I just like it, it makes me feel good and it’s totally ridiculous,…. just look at the video )(the hair!! THE HAIR!!!.. )

And you’re probably saying, I don’t understand what they are saying, no worries, I got that covered for you.. but I sometimes it’s better to just enjoy the music cause 90% of the time I’m wondering why someone would write a song about THAT (most K-pop songs make no sense to me once they have been translated to English)

I mean I’m not a cool guy
Not a kind guy, not a guy like that but about to be
I’m a decent bad boy

Until Next Time… Ring Ding Dong,

Music Monday:

Music MondayThe-Weeknd

For the past two weeks when I’m driving I’m tuned in to my  local radio station; it’s really the only time that I get a chance to listen to the radio, and at first my relationship with this song started from, “ooh,  that’s a catchy song” to “ooh; they are playing that catchy song again, then it progressed to, “seriously how many time are they gonna play this song in an hour, to “Is this the only song that they play, to where we are now; “If I hear this song one more time I’m going postal” Touted as the “feel good song of the summer” is really becoming the earworm that wont go away”

And what I thought was a catchy love song turned out to be a catchy song about drug abuse, yet this song still remains in my head, I guess it has a lot  to do with the super easy lyrics

So according to How Stuff Works, this is simply an issue with my auditory cortex

the participants’ auditory cortex automatically filled in the rest — in other words, their brains kept “singing” long after the song had ended . The only way to “scratch” brain itch is to repeat the song over and over in your mind. Unfortunately, like with mosquito bites, the more you scratch the more you itch, and so on until you’re stuck in an unending song cycle.

There are many other theories about why songs get stuck in our heads. Some researchers say stuck songs are like thoughts we’re trying to suppress. The harder we try not to think about them, the more we can’t help it. Other experts claim that earworms are simply a way to keep the brain busy when it’s idling . Just as there are many theories, there are many names for the phenomenon. It’s been called everything from “repetunitis” to “melodymania.”

So pretty much they’re saying that I screwed and there is nothing that can help me get this darn song out of my head. And I guess the only way I can get this one out of my head is to find a better one….. at the moment  Luhan’sThat Good Good” seems to be a really good contender; hopefully my next Music Monday I’ll write about a song I really like instead of one that has taken me hostage and won’t let me go.

“And I know she’ll be the death of me, at least we’ll both be numb And she’ll always get the best of me, the worst is yet to come But at least we’ll both be beautiful and stay forever young”

“Can’t Feel My Face” can be found on The Weekend’s latest album  Beauty Behind The Madness  on iTunes and Spotify

Even though this song popped up on the radio and not on my iPod I still think it counts.

Winner was one of those groups that I would hear about an not really think anything of. I had heard about them being on the same label as Big Bang and I knew that they were in (what I thought at the time) was an American –Idol like competition…. I was totally not interested, and (like I always say, and ALWAYS end up being wrong) I didn’t have room for another group  But one day I was bored and looking for something to keep ,me occupied so I wouldn’t fall asleep and YouTube came to my rescue with WiNNER TV. I figure I would watch one episode and if I didn’t like it I would move on to something else. These guys are absolute dorks and I couldn’t stop watching. I don’t have a bias with this group (because they are all bias ruiners), but I do have a really soft spot for Dumb and Dumber; serious how can you not love a guy who does the most perfect impression of Kim Woo Bin’s brow lift or the guy who comes in a very close second to Daesung’s evil mother portrayal in the “Secret Garden” parody.

Actually a few days go I finally decided that I wanted to watch Who Is Next: WIN and I have to say I tonally get why people felt so strongly about Team B (iKON). I thought that all the performances where good, but (even though I knew the outcome ahead of time) I still think that Team B were “technically” better dancers, Team A’s were better song writers (even though Team B’s finale performance was phenomenal) … and I finally get the hype.

I  really like this song, and actually I was surprised when I found out that this song was written by B.I and Bobby  (although I shouldn’t be all that shocked) because I didn’t think it was an “iKon” kind of song.. but whatever a good song is a good song. I really like this video, I think this one and Color Ring really bring home to “model” concept that they were going for with this album The only problem that I have with the video is the how small the female lead is, the first time I saw the video /I said “holy cow” she’s thin, honestly I don’t think I’ve ever seen a thigh gap that wide before….

I’m an empty shell,
a coward without you
People around me look at me with pity
It kills me, no what a day
Before starting my day, without thinking I saw…

“Empty” can be found on Winner’s latest album  2014 S/S on iTunes and Spotify

I’m looking forward to iKON’s debut album and WINNERs second album this year (that is if YG keeps his promises……)

It’s been 20 years since their last album, “The Show, the After Party ,the Hotel” (although “Diary of a Mad Band”, in my opinion is one of the best R&B albums EVER!) And I stanned this group like people stan EXO or Hansen….

The Past, The Present, The Future was released and honestly I didn’t think too much of it there have been so many  whispers about a Jodeci reunion I never took them seriously, and after I saw Jo-Jo on VH1 “Couples Therapy” I was like, this is a hot mess (that entire season was  hot freakin’ mess… I highly suggest you watch it.. for the Courtney Stodden factor), they aren’t coming back anytime soon. Let’s be honest one or more of them have been drugged out, boozed out, lifed out and after I while I just wrote them off and figured they would ride into obscurity like a lot of groups from the 90’s.

One thing that Jodeci has been known for is their “baby making songs” and this album serves of several. I think the thing that surprised me the most about this album was there wasn’t any surprises…. this album ‘and the songs) could have gone on any of their previous albums… and I like that because it makes it seem like little or no time has passed. When the album my first thought was, “please don’t tour…. please don’t come to Chicago….. I’m too old to be screaming and yelling and acting a fool” (I would still totally do it…. shame be damn)

Now let’s talk about this video, first things first I was reminded that Devante had a damn face tattoo.. let’s all take a mental pause,  what goes through your mind when you decide to get a face tattoo, certainly, “this I gonna look hot when I’m 70” is not one of them. Second it was cold and there was snow,  you want to me attempt to be sexy and sing in the snow and cold; I can barley stand the 10 minutes it takes to warm my car up. Third (this is gonna be slightly mean) but Jo-Jo looks like that old freaky guy from church that tries to hit on the young girls.. (they haven’t aged well at all…. that’s what drugs and hard living do to you) Fourth what the hell is that on Dalvin’s head it looks like a furry albino pig (I hope it’s fake) Yeah so overall I wasn’t all that impressed with the video, but let’s be honest their videos haven’t every really been anything to write home about. and since their too old  to dance, I guess a winter mountain scene is the best we’re gonna get.

Despite my grumbling I’m glad that their back, I hope that they have some success (althogh I doubt that they will ever have the level of fame that they had back in the 90’s) and hopefully more music will come out before they decide to take another extended hiatus, all in all there is nothing wrong with a little nostalgia..

Every Moment can be found on Jodeci’s latest album  “The Past, The Present, The Future”
