Last week I wore this fantastic red from NOPI. I loved it… I mean seriously I loved it. Reds tend to me a little tricky for me, sometimes they come off easy, sometimes the stain…. but the removal process for this one was easy, I did have a bit of an issue around and on my cuticles, but that may have something to do with dryness in that area… oh and before I forget Sinful Colors are on sale for 99 cents this week at Walgreens and it seems that some of their Sally Hansen’s are on sale for 69 cents… actually they are having a lot of polish sales this week… so go forth and replenish your collections

20140915_151958When I first saw this nail polish I picked it up, then walked away and went back to shopping, but before I hit the register I went back to pick it up. It was one of those polishes that you see but aren’t sure about but later decide that you really like it…. this is that kind of polish.

Mauvelous is not a mauve at all, it’s more of a dark, murky gray-purple.… let’s be honest people it’s a dark Taupe… guess this is where the lovely people at Sinful Colors couldn’t come up with a pun filled named… I guess you can’t go around calling it Taupelous… don’t have the same ring to it… Ignore all of that Mauvelous is in fact a Mauve… for some reason I ALWAYS get the two confused (mauves and taupes)…. so kudos to you Sinful Colors…. you’re keeping the

It’s rare that I have an issues with Sinful Colors nail polishes and this one is no exception, I literally had no problems with this polish. The polish itself is so concentrated that I really could have had one coat and been done, but me ever the cautious person I applied two coats.

Usually Taupes and Mauves are colors that I don’t normally where, I’m working towards liking them, but but it seems like everyone I turn around it seems like what constitutes as a taupe or mauve polish seems to be expanding, and I tend to look better in the darker shades in the spectrum… but would this be considered a nude?

closeup

As you can see from the pictures posted, there is a slight change in the shade based on what type of lightening your in, but otherwise20140915_152010 the color is consistent and the color in the bottle is the exact  color that you will get on your nails, and for me that always scores high points, how many times have you purchased and applied a polish then realize it looks nothing like it did in the bottle. the photos were taken before a top coat was applied and there was a small amount of shine that if you’re not even into the “mega-shine”: this would be good for you. Wearing this polish I was thinking to myself that this would be a good polish if you are trying to work your way up to black without wanted to go “full on dead as night, goth black”.

20140915_152132

I put the nail polish in front of Tsuki and honestly she didn’t seem all that impressed, I have noticed that she really enjoys the bright colors, but it might be time for me to let her know that when the weather gets colder and, somber more darker colors are nice to wear…

Great application, pretty much a one coater, no need to a top coat… this sounds nearly perfect doesn’t it? Which is why Mauvelous is getting 10 out of 10. Ever since I returned from my blogging hiatus last summer it seems like my NPLC picks have been getting high marks, now I’m not sure if this has to do with being more comfortable with my nails and nail polish, or I’m letting go of some of the expectations that I’ve had with polish, or maybe I simple have had a streak of good luck and  if that’s the case… who knows when it might end *fingers crossed*

Until Next Time…

Nail Polish Lottery Club–Week 82

The removal process of last week’s took a little bit longer than I expected, but seriously not a as long as it would if I was using a glitter, one of the reasons is because I used a mega shine top coat and 3 coat of polish, but overall it wasn’t bad .. I am learning to love nudes, and it really is a learning process for me, it really is true when they say that one nude is not like the other, you really need to find one that works with your coloring, and your overall personality. I think one of the problems that I’ve had in the past is choosing nudes that were a bit too light.  And recently I became aware that the spectrum of nude polish is a lot larger than I originally thought… so that’s super helpful

20140720_100829Zoya polishes (for me ) are on the expensive end of the polish spectrum… I start to get a little antsy when I’m nearing the $10 mark… maybe that’s why I have such a deep love for Sinful Colors polishes..But I was able to get these during their 3 free sale in July were three polishes were free and you simply had to pay 12 for shipping and handling…. DONE!  Three bucks a bottle is more my speed anyway, and I’m kinda mad that I didn’t get more… but I won’t fret the next time they have a sale I’m gonna be on it! I know I’m always late to the party… but how come no one told me about the color spoon program? Seriously this is brilliant.

Normani is part of the Zoya Transitional Naturel Spring (2014) Collection. Described as a Sable Mauve crème  this polish had me at hello..The Zoya polishes feel a bit thin and watery but they spread easily and, for the most part, have great pigmentation. I could get away with two thin coats with all the shade. Like last week’s pick, this one looks different depending on the light. Seriously depending on the lighting … it was really difficult to get a “true” color, but I think it works out better without the flash. I have also been told that this color is very similar to Essie’s 20140720_100720Merino as well as Zoya’s Jana . I’ve already mentioned the formulation of the polish let’s talk about the bottle and the brush… because I really like them both: Their signature Italian glass (the bottles are actually made in their production facility in Milan….how fancy !!) bottles have a tapered, shiny black plastic cap that makes it really easy for me to polish my nails. The brush is short, round and medium in girth with flexible bristles that allow for ease of control. (this photo used flash)

20140729_152154Ever the diva Tsuki would only pose in the correct lights and wouldn’t allow me to use flash (she tends to close her eyes) as you can see she’s seriously working on her supermodel poses. If you look closely to the bottle it looks (yet) again like a  different color… . Now back to the polish… what can I say I love, love, loved it… this is really something that I would consider an everyday polish…… this one get’s a 10 out of 10 ! Maybe I will explore nude nails more often.

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 67

So all last week several women posted on Polish-aholics Anonymous how nail polishes were on sale at Kmart. Now I haven’t been to Kmart in years honey…. YEARS… but when more than one person is telling me to hop, skip and jump to get on these sales…. you know I’m on my way, especially considering that it was one of the days that I was on medically ordered bed-rest. I went anyway. And of course is the luck of Tyra … the pickin’s were slim… SLIM! So I went home with 2 bottles of Sinful Colors, which were on a Buy 2 get 1 free….. I was able to get some other stuff that was majorly marked down as well… I traveled all that way for nothing…. see ladies this is why you should always listen to you doctor.. stay in bed and order your polish online!

I won some nail polish from Nicole by OPI and Dove Chocolate and The Nail Polish Lottery Club is having a contest as well… so if you’re interested in joining a great group and possibly winning some great products… so check it out here

Essie’s Lady Like

nplc break

This week’s pic is a little different for me  as noted on previous posts I tend to have an aversion to nudes/neutral/light pink nails polish. so imagine my surprise when this weeks pick lead to Essie’s Lady Like . I got a double triple whammy on this one.  Lady like is a pink/plum tone mauve polish that is part of the  “Brand New Bag” (2011) Collection. As with any neutral it can go with anything and pretty much looks good with everything that you wear. I should probably say that this polish was gifted to me, and that’s the only reason that I won it; this would never be a polish that I would purchase for myself.

This particular polish has several dupes…which is good since this one might be in rotation anymore, China Glaze’s Dress Me Up and OPI’s Tickly my France-y … are just two

DSC07454

DSC02578This polish only requires two coats and it’s opaque and something that seriously surprised be about this polish was it was so smooth to apply… seriously it was like butter…nice even strokes… I was pleasantly surprised by home much I like this polish. One of the things that I’ve noticed the past couple of weeks is that polish tends to look so different with shorter nails than it does, the last time I wore a nude shade I distinctly remember saying that my nails looked corpse like and it did nothing for my skin…. but I really, really like this; goes to show you that sometimes length of the nail does make a difference.

DSC02573

I wanted to add two pictures one with flash and one without flash so that you see the subtle difference that the light makes with this polish. So one of my tells when I am really into a nail polish is me constantly looking at my nails… I love the idea of wearing this polish but looking like I’m not wearing polish.. this is defiantly the nail version of the “no make-up” make-up. My mom and I went out so I asked her what she thought about this polish (I know bad or good she’s gonna tell me like it is” She didn’t really care for the polish, but without me saying the name of the polish she said “it looks really lady like and demure, it looks like something a grandmother would wear”…. well she’s says I act like an old person so there.. I consider that a complement… but she did add, “I like it better when you wear bright colors” Well that’s the beauty of NPLC you use what

the pick is … you have no say. I have to say I’m grateful because I’ve discovered polish that I would have never touched otherwise.

This polish is defiantly makes me want to revisit the other nude that I blogged about in Week 14 Essie’s Sand Tropez. I wonder if I will feel differently about it with shorter nails, I maybe have to do another NPLClub rewind and see if I feel differently DSC02581. But since we are still talking about this polish we might as well get to rating it… I think it’s been a long time since I’ve been so generous with my ratings, but here we go Essie’s Lady Like get’s a nice big 9 out of 10 ! So there you go. Lessons learned this week…. Listen to your doctor, stay in bed and purchase you nail polish online AND don’t discount the nudes.

What’s your favorite nude/neutral polish? I might want to extend my collection.

Until Next Time…
