Since nothing has been posted on the NPLC Facebook page, I’m assuming that there is a break for a Christmas holiday, but I shall go on without them and this will unofficially be Week 101. As far as I’m concerned last week’s pick was a show stopper that was perfect for the holidays, and this week I picked another holiday inspired polish…

20141204_224549When I picked this nail polish I kind you not I sang the entire Frozen soundtrack… this is totally an Elsa nail polish, but alias Sinful Colors didn’t see it my way, despite my emails (I’m kidding on that one) and  named it Ice Dreams instead…. which I guess when you think about it suits it as well.

Ice  Dream is   a fine silver glitter polish with larger discs of turquoise glitter in it. Very glitzy, very wintery. One coat is almost entirely opaque,  obviously this glitter would look fantastic with a grey, white or light blue, but for the purpose of this post I simply used it alone… I wanted to get the full effect.

This is currently apart of the Holiday Wishes collection, (Formally of the Glitz and Glittered collection )I said currently as you know Sinful Colors add pr20141204_224506eviously released colors and place them in multiple collections, but I really like these, all Blues and Golds, and all something I would totally wear (hell I already own a few of them)

I tend to get nervous when I’m using glitters because they are so hit and miss they are either clump and hard to apply or in this case, applies smooth and even with little or no problems, the polish dried really fast and the glitter was nice and smooth to the touch; one of my pet peeves with glitter is when it’s bumpy only because it has a tendency to snag on my clothing.

close

Several days later I changed my mind, and wanted to see what it would look like with a base color and I honestly I’m not use which way I prefer, and it sort of gives you a different look, but since I’m partial to blue this one is a winner.

1

This week Tsuki graciously allowed me to photograph her with the nail polish while she was preparing to nap… such a generous feline, she doesn’t seem all that thrilled about it…. but who cares…

20141220_132651

I loved it’s polish and I love that you can create different looks with a different base polish, or you can wear it alone… and since it’s a winter themed and instantly reminded me of the movie Frozen I can’t help but give this polish a 10 out of 10 !

Sinful Color’s Ice Dream retails for $1.99.

Until Next Time….

I didn’t wear anything last week, and honestly I’m not sure if I remember what I wore a couple of weeks ago…. so let’s just say that I loved it and moved on….

Folly is glossy, raspberry red creame. When I saw it, I instantly picked it up (Thank goodness for Walgreen’s 99 cent sale), I never walk away from a pink tone…This Polish is part of the Bright to Buff collection, and I have a few of the polishes in the collection: Endless Blue and GoGoGirl, so naturally I wanted to add (FYI: I’m on the lookout for Pistache !). I loved this polish from the moment I put it one…. well until I put that top coat on it…but that’s for later.nail2

The application of Folly was easy,  In order for me  to get full opacity I applied two coats,  with one coat it looks good and I was happy with it, but I had slight VPL on some nails,  but with two coats the color is richer and more beautiful.  Folly is really pretty and bright but it was very hard to catch it and on the pictures it looks little bit brighter. Now the formula is Sinful Colors, some of them are hit or miss, but this particular one was smooth like butter, and it dried really quickly; which is always nice because without fault … every single time I do my nails I have to go to the bathroom 30 seconds after I finish the last nail.

Someone described this color as “squishy” not exactly sure that that means, but the person that complemented me was six…but I will admit that it has a sort of Barbie-esque quality to it that I enjoy. If your Walgreens/Walmart is anything like the ones near me, you aren’t really gonna find every color that you want/need at one store and you might not even find the color at all, so you have to look for dupes, and since it seems horribly unfair for me to suggest one that costs more than the original; but it seems that Sinful Colors has taken care of that for you with All The Rage (which I am pretty sure that I own). So you can get pretty much an identical look with either shade.dupes

Tsuki, has seriously been sticking close by me since the whole “post biopsy…oops I hit  a nerve now your in a ton of pain fiasco” happened, so she’s refused to move… so (parts of her ) in most of the pictures… either she loves me a lot or she’s in “Diva Mode” I’m hoping it’s the former. She doesn’t seem to mind, she is her favorite color after all.

This polish is an absolute gem and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the color what’s so ever. So Folly uoi get a  10 out of 10!  Folly retails for $1.99 and (the topper) Amazing Glaze retails for $5.49

20141015_100210

Last week I wore a lovely pink polish from I Love Nail Polish, and although I didn’t get a full week out of it like I normally do out of the polishes that I wear, my time with it was brutal cut short when I decided (after much deliberation) that it was time to cut my nails. Removal was a breeze, I didn’t have any issues with the nail polish staining my fingers or my nails. I seriously hated having to take it off and /I almost… almost decided not to do a NPLC this week, just because I loved it so much.

Vacation Time is a pretty dusty rose brown creame. In the bottle i wasn’t really impressed or wow’ed by the color, but on the nail i thought it was really flattering, this particular polish fits two themes, it’s great for the fall AND it’s (somewhat) pink so it fits in with the pink nails for October theme  I have going on at the moment. before I get to the color let me say that I purchased this polish before I looked at the name, but I figured with a name like that it would a bright color, maybe something that 20141015_100201evokes a tropical island vacation. I picked up this polish, looked at it and put it down and went about my shopping, then came back and put it in my cart. This is defiantly not the type of color that I would seek out. When I looked at it I instantly thought of my grandmother, when she wore nail polish it was always a dusty rose shade, and maybe that’s why I picked it up… nostalgia, and honestly the color has been growing on me.

These colors look great on people with warmer and/or darker skin tones.. The formula is thin, but builds nicely to a streak-free finish in two coats. I think it’s called Vacation Time because it’s a work-friendly polish color. I imagine staring at my nails after a hard week at work and thinking. And I also put this color on my toe nails so that proves how much I like this color, I’ve been reading what others have thought about this particular polish and a one of the mentioned that the color was nothing like the color in the bottle, when I found to be very confusing because the picture is very much exactly like it is in the bottle perhaps the bottle that blogger used as old…who knows nail polish is a funny thing.

Capture

This is a great color, and if you can’t find this particular polish search from a very close dupe is Pure Ice’s Envy . And the best part is both brands are inexpensive so frugal fashionistas won’t have an issue with this splurge. Pure Ice polish’s normal retail for $1.97. Or is you are looking for something with a higher price point I would suggest OPI’s Barefoot in Barcelona.

dupe

Even though it’s only Tuesday, it’s been a busy week and I haven’t been able to wrangle Tsuki to take a picture  with this week’s pick… so for your viewing enjoyment you’ll get derpy Tsuki. I like this polish for I’m gonna give it a 8 out of 10. I think this is a versatile polish that can go far in my collection.

Sinful Color’s Vacation Time retails for $1.99.

Last week I wore this fantastic red from NOPI. I loved it… I mean seriously I loved it. Reds tend to me a little tricky for me, sometimes they come off easy, sometimes the stain…. but the removal process for this one was easy, I did have a bit of an issue around and on my cuticles, but that may have something to do with dryness in that area… oh and before I forget Sinful Colors are on sale for 99 cents this week at Walgreens and it seems that some of their Sally Hansen’s are on sale for 69 cents… actually they are having a lot of polish sales this week… so go forth and replenish your collections

nail border

20140915_151958When I first saw this nail polish I picked it up, then walked away and went back to shopping, but before I hit the register I went back to pick it up. It was one of those polishes that you see but aren’t sure about but later decide that you really like it…. this is that kind of polish.

Mauvelous is not a mauve at all, it’s more of a dark, murky gray-purple.… let’s be honest people it’s a dark Taupe… guess this is where the lovely people at Sinful Colors couldn’t come up with a pun filled named… I guess you can’t go around calling it Taupelous… don’t have the same ring to it… Ignore all of that Mauvelous is in fact a Mauve… for some reason I ALWAYS get the two confused (mauves and taupes)…. so kudos to you Sinful Colors…. you’re keeping the

It’s rare that I have an issues with Sinful Colors nail polishes and this one is no exception, I literally had no problems with this polish. The polish itself is so concentrated that I really could have had one coat and been done, but me ever the cautious person I applied two coats.

Usually Taupes and Mauves are colors that I don’t normally where, I’m working towards liking them, but but it seems like everyone I turn around it seems like what constitutes as a taupe or mauve polish seems to be expanding, and I tend to look better in the darker shades in the spectrum… but would this be considered a nude?

closeup

As you can see from the pictures posted, there is a slight change in the shade based on what type of lightening your in, but otherwise20140915_152010 the color is consistent and the color in the bottle is the exact  color that you will get on your nails, and for me that always scores high points, how many times have you purchased and applied a polish then realize it looks nothing like it did in the bottle. the photos were taken before a top coat was applied and there was a small amount of shine that if you’re not even into the “mega-shine”: this would be good for you. Wearing this polish I was thinking to myself that this would be a good polish if you are trying to work your way up to black without wanted to go “full on dead as night, goth black”.

20140915_152132

I put the nail polish in front of Tsuki and honestly she didn’t seem all that impressed, I have noticed that she really enjoys the bright colors, but it might be time for me to let her know that when the weather gets colder and, somber more darker colors are nice to wear…

Great application, pretty much a one coater, no need to a top coat… this sounds nearly perfect doesn’t it? Which is why Mauvelous is getting 10 out of 10. Ever since I returned from my blogging hiatus last summer it seems like my NPLC picks have been getting high marks, now I’m not sure if this has to do with being more comfortable with my nails and nail polish, or I’m letting go of some of the expectations that I’ve had with polish, or maybe I simple have had a streak of good luck and  if that’s the case… who knows when it might end *fingers crossed*

Nail Polish Lottery Club–Week 84

Two weeks ago I wore Normani a lovely nude polish from Zoya, and honestly I didn’t want to take it off… as a matter of fact it’s still on my feet. sigh… this was a pretty straight forward removal since it wasn’t glitter… what I didn’t pick off my self (I know bad habit) I used a bit of polish to remove the rest.

Sinful Colors…. I love it! I love that I can get a good polish for a good price (cause you know I’m cheap). Best time of the year is that 99 cents sale that they have at Walgreens every few months…so naturally this beauty got picked up, it wasn’t until a few months later when I was looking at my collection that I felt like I had already had something that was very similar (I generally don’t buy a polish if it’s similar to one that I already own). So I had to take a closer look at the polishes  20140805_162532Sinful Color’s Hottie (center), Different Dimension’s Think of All The Other Fellas I Haven’t Kissed (right) and Super Star (left)  and after swatching I realized that none of them look alike.. probably should have did that in the beginning. (swatches had no base color and were two coats each)

Super Star was apart of the Winter Shimmers collection in 2012. it’s  a super pretty blue jelly with purple and aqua glitter… it’s also notoriously difficult to photo so that you can see all the facets of the nail polish.  As you can see from my swatch above this is totally a nail polish that SinfulColorsuperStaryou can wear alone, maybe three or for coats and your good to go (hopefully you have a good glue base so you don’t have to worry about scrubbing you nails (and possibly drying the nail and your cuticles in the process). But I really wanted to add a bit of depth, so I paired this polish with Zoya’s Neve (which was my week 48 pick) and used Super Star as a glittery topper…. sparkles galore!!

The application of this polish was a breeze, I was a little confused because some people were 20140729_124701saying that that the second coat was a little bit tacky, and at first I assumed that happens when you use the polish as a stand alone (since I didn’t swatch until after I painted my nails) . But I20140729_152103 didn’t have any issues when swatching, so I’m gonna make that up either to old polish or a user error. I really liked this polish, and I loved how it adds a little something special to an already fantastic polish. My only issue with this polish is that the camera can’t grab all the awesomeness. (I did spend quite a bit of time twirling my fingers in the sunlight….)

So I searching for a particular Sinful Colors polish and I came across this little gem, does anyone remember what the old SC bottles look like? I had no idea that the company had been around for so long… take a look at this

old skool sinful colors, old gold, whats that, maghony flame, green bean fushia ---deez-nailz--- (1)

20140729_152139

Like every model, you have to get them when they are fresh, and in the case of this model. It’s best to photograph her right before she’s settling down in my her bed, for mid-day nap. I really like the way this color looks against her black fur…and think that when the time comes this would look quite striking on her as a color, but alas Tsuki enjoys sparkles that are pink…although she didn’t seem that impressed with the color, I remain so. This polish was fantastic and I’m giving it a 9 out of 10… the only reason it’s not getting a perfect score was because I couldn’t really photograph it properly on my nail (and honestly that’s not the nail polish’s fault.

Until Next Time…
