Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 75

images_thumb1

Due to the fact that I am on vacation this post was done ahead of time and done before the lottery number was picked for week 72.  This is a new polish that I have never worn that I randomly selected from my nail polish database. Next week we will resume as normally.

But ladies and gentlemen…. it is here … live and in effect, rocking on my fingernails, the nail polish that at first grossed me out then intrigued me, the most unfortunately named nail polish is in my pretty little hands.. (I’m so excited!!)

I mentioned my hunt for BK here

I looked high and low all over Chicago land, I even had some people looking out of state and Beau Khaki didn’t want to be found (I swear I felt like I was hunting Big Foot) and finally I decided that I was just gonna go and purchase on Amazon… for $5.00 I mean compared to what other people are paying for polish and what people are paying for hard to finds on eBay 5 bucks isn’t not that big of a mark-up (I had actually decided hat I wasn’t gonna pay more than 20.00 for a bottle; thank goodness it didn’t com to that…. now let’s get to the polish!!

DSC02876This particular polish was apart of the Haute Rebel collection; and to be honest I probably saw this display in the store and was totally unimpressed by the color scheme and simply walked by.  Beau Khaki is a dusty sage green creme. It reminds me s lot of Essie Sew Psyched (which I didn’t realize how similar they are until I really looked at them together ) It’s a green polish but very neutral and is wearable in any season; when I first got this polish I was afraid that it could only be worn in the fall and winter months, but once I put this one I decided this polish is so pretty and so light that it could work year round.

There is nothing more satisfying than waiting forever for a polish only to find out that it is asDSC02878 perfect as you imagined it. OMG! If you treat this polish right, it will certainly return the favor, this little lovely is a one coater! After I say how brilliant my nails looked with one coat I was done! Complete opacity. Although this polish was a bit runny as long as take care not to add too much polish on the brush you should be just fine. The color on the nail is exactly as it is on the bottle there. I should also note that all pictures were taken without a top coat. And for you keen eyed readers out there, you might notice a huge crack in the handle of the bottle… well I was so excited that the polish finally came I dropped it and the handle broke into two… I WAS PANICKED… I hadn’t even had it for an hour… but I just added a bit of polish on the handle and secured it and let it sit over night…. next day it was good as new. (of course I did this because I was unable to locate my krazy glue… so now you know, sometimes nail polish can work in a pinch!)

DSC02881Tsuki seems interested in the polish; for now she’ll just sniff around, but seriously with her it’s hit or miss… but there was no way I could give this polish anything lower than 10 out of 10! PERFECT!! Color is great, application was easy peasy and it was a one coater….

3 days later there is some tip wearing despite the fact that I wrapped my nails, but that’s nothing new I’m tough on my nails… plus I never did get around to putting that top coat on, and that probably would have made a difference.

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 71

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Generally I try to get my NPLClub posts on Tuesdays… I’ve been feeling under the weather… so you’re gonna get a ton of posts today (I’ll be posting in between naps…)

Before we go into this weeks pic, let me lament about last week’s pick. Great color, so great IDSC02771 did my toes in the color and got so many complements on the color and my manicure as a whole, but holy cow… it leaves a mess behind when 20140513_151958you remove it. My nails were so yellow that my doctor asked me if my liver was okay, he thought that maybe I was showing signs of jaundice. So just beware if you plan on using this polish, your nails are defiantly gonna need some TLC afterwards. (this was taken after they were buffed and soaked and you can still see a bit of yellowing)

I was looking to try something new, lately I have been really unhappy with the polishes that Julep has come out with, so on a whim I signed up for Color Me Monthly . Color Me Monthly is a monthly nail polish subscription that sends out an affordable bottle of non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free polish in earth-friendly packaging. The subscription costs $7.00/month. Once again I got another great spring color called Sirens, and before I even knew the name my first thoughts were, “how this reminds me of the sea, and mermaids, fish scales and all that jazz”… hell I was close enough.

DSC02752Sirens is a medium milky sea foam green with a shimmering microglitter. Very pretty and totally on trend for the season. As you can tell from the picture this is the first coat, so this particular polish requires at least two coats to get the achieved look. I was really happy to see that there was a good amount of micorglitter in the first coat. By the time I got to my second coat the polish was completely opaque.

You can clearly see the microglitters in the bottle and the polish looks exactly the same on theDSC02753 nail, there is no color or shade variation at all.. Even without the use of flash (and if you can look closely you can see the microglitters on my nail..

I loved this polish so much I matched my entire outfit to it… as you can see my bracelet and 20140511_115146rope belt match my manicure! And I wasn’t the only one who liked this polish Tsuki REALLY liked it… I sat the polish on the bed and see DSC02744assumed it was a toy and proceeded to carry it off to her bed… I was able to snap a picture before she bolted. Maybe this week I will do a little nail art with this polish, I think last month’s CMM pick would be a great complement to this

The application of the polish was smooth and I had no issues at all with the brush. Overall I was really impressed with this weeks pick and look forward to future CCM mailings. Now I know that I said the same thing about my previous CMM pick, but I have that I love the fact that this is a small operation which means there is extra care to make sure that each polish is perfect. And you know that I will find anything to pick apart  on my post, but this one seems to have done it again, I am VERY impressed. So this polish get’s a 10 out of 10! And if you’re looking for a good quality polish in a “surprise” color every month I would highly suggest signing up for this service.

Until Next Time…

Limelight is (as the name implies) a lime green crème, and it’s the type of green that’s cute and trendy and something that you could incorporate into different season, when I initially purchased this polish it was intended for the fall, it never occurred to me until I pulled this polish as this week’s pick that it’s perfect for the spring/summer…
This color reminds me of grass, not sure if that actually the case of just a bit of wishful thinking since it’s still cold and dreary here in Chicago , and where there isn’t snow there is frozen, brown, grass *sad face*.

20140315_225143Be careful with this polish it’s on the thin side, so if you want a polish that is quick to put on before you go out on the town, this is NOT the polish for you. This polish takes between 3 to 4 coats to be opaque. When I put on the first layer, I was SHOCKED at how this it was, I knew that I hadn’t had the polish for this long, and I recently reviewed another Ulta Salon Formula polish and it wasn’t that thin at all. I put on the first layer and I was seriously about to pack it in… it was so thin you could barley see the polish at all on my nails. So I went to work on something else, while I allowed the polish to dry, and by the time the second layer was put on it didn’t seem like a complete loss. Turns out this polish was a shocker… by the fourth layer (yeah I know) I had seriously fallen in love with this color. But I kept wanted to add more layers of polish because it seemed like there was a some streakiness on some of my nails.. It’s trendy (I said that already), vibrant, 20140315_225207totally St. Pat’s AND it looks fantastic with my skin tone… I think that has something to so with the lack of yellow in this particular shade of green.

So let’s get down to the nitty gritty although my previous experience with brand of polish it’s clear that there is no real consistency across the board. Honestly as much as I love the color it takes a long time and a lot of coats for me to get the look that I wanted, and to me that seems like I’m getting less value for the money that I spent on it; and the color is simply not unique enough for me to recommend this polish to others.

If this polish was a little bit thicker and able to get the look that I wanted in coats, it would have scored a 10… that’s how much I loved the color, but it takes a lot of time, there is potential for streaks and smudges and you have to be REALLY careful with this… so I sadly have to give this polish a 4 out of 10 *sad face*

I really want to know if ?I was the only one who had this particular issue with this polish? Is it possible that I simply got hold of a bad bottle? Hopefully next  week’s pick will give me something fantastic… this was really a downer.

Until Next Time…

When I grabbed the nail polish I was confused because I had no clue where I got it from, usually can look at a polish and remember where I got this from…not this one. So I looked it up because I have never heard of this particular polish before….and there is not a 20140308_222021lot of information, one thing that popped up was the Rockey Trading Company…. apparently they sell this brand of nail polish in bulk so I’m thinking where ever I got this polish originally got it from there….. so the mystery continues….

I love a teal green, I guess that’s why I have so many of them in collection, but when no prior experience with this brand I forged ahead with a base coat and a idea of what I 20140308_221904wanted my nails to look like. The first layer had me seriously worried because it was so thin and the whole time I was thinking, “this is gonna be a mess” so I took the slow and steady approach and allowed the layer to dry for 30 minutes before apply the second layer; which turned out great… the color was nice and rich and exactly as it appears in the bottle.

Since I was feeling a little funky I decided to do a little cute nail art on all of the fingers… man those lines were a pain… and not all of them were straight, but no one is looking at my nails that closely but me. Then I topped it off with  Salon Perfect’s Matte FX (topcoat) . I was really happy with the look… Now this is the second time that I have used this particular top coat and the first time left my nail polish uber brittle and it started cracking and fell off, well you know I’m hard-headed and I tried again… and guess what I woke up with a little surprise (did I mention that I did my nails before bed?) , I’m not sure exactly what type of gymnastics that I do when I’m sleeping but I shouldn’t wake up 7 hours later with chips in my nail polish. Simply unacceptable… now I’m not gonna place the blame on J Lacquer… nope this is all Salon Perfect’s fault!!

20140309_114808

Now on to a a score, although this polish seem to come out of nowhere, the application was great, and I honestly think I would have gotten a nice wear out of this polish had a chosen a better topcoat… so J Lacquer get’s a

7 out of 10

I hope everyone had a better experience with their polish than I had this week..

When I grabbed this polish at my local Walmart, I was attracted to this particular polish due to  two things. one, it was a great color, and two it had lots of sparkle, that’s a win and win in my book.  Twisted is a flashy blue-green flakie The base is a sheer ocean blue and it’s full of micro glitters in blue and green and a tiny bit of purple. The more layers you apply the greener it becomes.
20131219_180431I purchased this polish in the summer so I’m not sure if this is an isolated incident by the polish was very thin and I new that it was going to take more that two layers to get the look that I wanted. After applying two layers I noticed that there was still parts of my nail that were still very streaky and bare especially on the tips on my nails. I had to be 20131219_180445really careful because if the thinness of the formula that there was no pooling on the nails. Overall this polish didn’t take very long to dry, although it’s very tacky while it dries (so try no to touch anything). All of that aside, I did like the way it looked once it was (

Let me just go on a tangent. I was unable to take a good picture of the nail polish so you can see how pretty it was so I went to the Pure Ice website… let me tell you it’s the saddest little website I have ever seen for nail polishes. They don’t even have color swatches…  how in the hell are you suppose to now which ones that you want to buy… I mean are you serious?

So an hour after the nail polish was completely dried and I’m typing this blog entry I notice that the polish is starting to smug? Are you kidding me? I mean come on!! I get that this is a lower end polish but all the hassle that this polish has caused me makes me want to get my $1.97 back! As you can imagine this one is scoring low …. 2 out of 10.

I’m hoping that it’s a fluke, because I remember seeing a lot of adorable colors on the display… I’m really disappointed.20131219_200416
