Last week I wore which was a perfect shade for autumn, seems almost fortuitous that I for a Mariah Carey polish considering all the publicity she’s getting for her Tone Deaf Tokyo Tour….Elusive Chanteuse Show and the fact that she can’t hit a note… but we are not talking about her performance (which is a hot mess) but we are talking about the polish….the removal process was super easy and it took less time than it usually does, and I think that has to do with new nail polish remover I’ve been using, but I didn’t experience any staining which is always a plus.

20140925_151433“Marshmallow is a cloudy sheer white, perfect for a French manicure.” well at least according to Essie, and honestly I tend to agree.. I love white, but honestly I tend to use it was a base or only for nail art… but this is the perfect standalone white polish. Generally when I use a white polish the application is streaky and it’s filled with problems and I either give up half way through or not happy with the overall appearance (it either looks lumpy, or it’s  mega white and nearly blinding).

I had heard a lot of good things on a nail polish group that I’m on and with my previous issues finding the “right white” I figured it wasn’t gonna hurt anything but my wallet to give this one a try. I got to Ulta and I wasn’t able to find it, after talking to store associate she was not only able to locate it but she pointed out the20140925_151447 super bargain bin… I was able to get China Glazes for 99 cents….she is my new favorite person at Ulta…. seriously. So I get this polish and I’m super excited about it. I wanted to try it out immediately but I was wearing another polish that I was smitten with and didn’t want to remove at the time.

But finally the time has come wear it and to tell my reader how I feel about it. Marshmallow Is a milky “jelly” white crème, no shimmer. For the most part I don’t have any issues with Essie polishes, but my major concern about this polish was that it was so thin and it took 3 coats to get about 80% opacity. Because you are applying three sometimes four coats it takes a while for the nail polish to dry. After being extremely careful after painting my nails and waiting 3 hours to go to bed I woke up to find that I hand imprints in the polish… which was extremely disappointing; after two coats of topcoat the “imperfections” were barely noticeable, but the experience  left a sour taste in my mouth. After doing a bit of research a lot of people complain about the lighter shades being thin. This puts me in between a rock and a hard place because on one hand I didn’t enjoy previous white nail polishes because the formulas were thick and now I’m complaining that this polish is too thin….what’s a girl to do?3

This is a nice color, I’ll admit that. But if you look online the color if this polish varies a lot depending on the light . One blogger called it, “taupe colored neutral”. So my search for the perfect white continues next white that I’ll be trying is OPI’s Funny Bunny which is an exact dupe or perhaps My Vampire is Buff… but I’m hoping the formula is better…which me luck!

Tsuki being a feline supermodel gave one her her best poses to date…no word on her thoughts on this polish… but it sure does match the background well. As for me,  I have a serious love/ hate relationship with this polish for in fairness it get’s a middle of the road 5 out of 10. What’s your go-to white nail polish?

Essie’s Marshmallow retails for $8.50.

Last week wore I Love Nail Polish’s Birefringence, and as much as I gushed about it and although I was sad to take it off…cause let’s admit it, it’s a fantastic nail polish, and

with bottleChallenge Red-y is a blue toned from special made for a promotion for  Special K made by Nicole by OPI. The Shine Brighter campaign was introduced to encourage women to show off their confidence through color. Based on how many codes you were able to accumulate you would depends on the number of polishes you receive the entire collection include My Sol Shines Brighter and Live in the Momentum. I ate a LOT of Special K products this summer, so much so that now it’s the only cold cereal that I ate…. but thanks to my cereal eating I was able to get 6 polishes.

This crème polish and formula was smooth and very easy to apply. There was a bit of VPL after two coats…. so depending on how you apply it make take 2-3 coats. This polish is better described as a candy apple red , when you picture those old Hollywood vixens and movie stars this is the color they would be wearing. I felt superwithout bottle glamorous wearing this polish… I loved it so much I put it on my toes as well. You can’t go wrong with a red polish, and this one works really well on people with tan and dark toned skin.

Even though I love red, it’s not a color that I wear often, and now that my nails have gotten longer I think the red is a bit more noticeable. I had a lady at Wal-Mart walk up to me and ask me if my nail were real when  I replied that they were , she scrunched up her face, looked at my nails and “politely” told me that I shouldn’t wear that color because hey make me nails look fake. I’m sure I won’t be the first one to get a rude, opinionated comment about my nails…certainly I won’t be the last. (sorry for the lack up clean-up… I was super excited about this polish)

As soon as I sat this nail polish on the bed Tsuki wouldn’t stop playing with it I want to say that she was in a playful mood (but she’s always like that ), but not only that she wanted to do some sort of acrobatics…. she’s such a show off…  like me, she knows a good thing when she sees it.  And she knows that red looks as good on he r as it does on my … so because of the color, the easy application and the fact that some felt the need to tell my my nails looked fake I can’t help but give Challenge Red-y a 10 out of 10.

Nail Polish Lottery Club–Week 82

The removal process of last week’s took a little bit longer than I expected, but seriously not a as long as it would if I was using a glitter, one of the reasons is because I used a mega shine top coat and 3 coat of polish, but overall it wasn’t bad .. I am learning to love nudes, and it really is a learning process for me, it really is true when they say that one nude is not like the other, you really need to find one that works with your coloring, and your overall personality. I think one of the problems that I’ve had in the past is choosing nudes that were a bit too light.  And recently I became aware that the spectrum of nude polish is a lot larger than I originally thought… so that’s super helpful

20140720_100829Zoya polishes (for me ) are on the expensive end of the polish spectrum… I start to get a little antsy when I’m nearing the $10 mark… maybe that’s why I have such a deep love for Sinful Colors polishes..But I was able to get these during their 3 free sale in July were three polishes were free and you simply had to pay 12 for shipping and handling…. DONE!  Three bucks a bottle is more my speed anyway, and I’m kinda mad that I didn’t get more… but I won’t fret the next time they have a sale I’m gonna be on it! I know I’m always late to the party… but how come no one told me about the color spoon program? Seriously this is brilliant.

Normani is part of the Zoya Transitional Naturel Spring (2014) Collection. Described as a Sable Mauve crème  this polish had me at hello..The Zoya polishes feel a bit thin and watery but they spread easily and, for the most part, have great pigmentation. I could get away with two thin coats with all the shade. Like last week’s pick, this one looks different depending on the light. Seriously depending on the lighting … it was really difficult to get a “true” color, but I think it works out better without the flash. I have also been told that this color is very similar to Essie’s 20140720_100720Merino as well as Zoya’s Jana . I’ve already mentioned the formulation of the polish let’s talk about the bottle and the brush… because I really like them both: Their signature Italian glass (the bottles are actually made in their production facility in Milan….how fancy !!) bottles have a tapered, shiny black plastic cap that makes it really easy for me to polish my nails. The brush is short, round and medium in girth with flexible bristles that allow for ease of control. (this photo used flash)

20140729_152154Ever the diva Tsuki would only pose in the correct lights and wouldn’t allow me to use flash (she tends to close her eyes) as you can see she’s seriously working on her supermodel poses. If you look closely to the bottle it looks (yet) again like a  different color… . Now back to the polish… what can I say I love, love, loved it… this is really something that I would consider an everyday polish…… this one get’s a 10 out of 10 ! Maybe I will explore nude nails more often.

Nail Polish Lottery Club–Week 79

You will never know the sadness that overcame me when I had to remove last week mani, I loved it… I think if I was a nail polish that would be it…but my excitement and over adornment of my pick quickly faded when it came time to remove it. I think its time for me to pull out the big guns and use the glue method because even though I used the foil method it took forever, and I still had to go back and do a lot of clean-up; black polish and glitter is a dangerous pair…. wow!

20140706_214348Julep’s Catrina is described as marigold yellow crème according to the website I like to think of it as egg yolk yellow. I’ve had this for a while as this polish came in the September 2013 box. Yellows have always ben colors that I’ve been weary of yellows, they just seem like they are made for trouble, and of course there is the whole, “is it gonna look right on me”

20140706_214249It’s been a good while since I’ve used a Julep polish, but this particular polish was somewhat thin and the first coat was very streaky, I got super concerned that maybe I did something wrong and should have used a white 20140706_214337undercoat before I started my first layer. But not to worry everything evened out by the second (which I was really grateful for). Although this would not have been my first choice for a color this week, I have to be honest it’s a very striking color… but something was  missing, I’m still missing the wow…. I mean this color is still “in your face” but I decided to add some of my favorite comic book water decals for a little added pop and a bit of nail art, that I have been desperately needing.

20140706_220343Let’s be honest there is not much I can say about this polish…. it’s great! it looked great….The last time I wore a yellow polish I think that I was still on the fence. But this color has really tipped me over the edge, I really like it, but unfortunately me liking Julep’s nail polishes are hit or miss. Although it was a bit thin I totally loved this polish… and I think it looks really good on me. so in love with the color.  So this week’s pick get’s a 9 out of 10 points!

I had to ask permission to get a photo this week Tsuki is such a diva… she was laying on her pillow and graciously lifted her head so that a 20140706_213556photo could be taken… you can barley see the polish, but like I said she was in a bit of a mood.

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 75

images_thumb1

Due to the fact that I am on vacation this post was done ahead of time and done before the lottery number was picked for week 72.  This is a new polish that I have never worn that I randomly selected from my nail polish database. Next week we will resume as normally.

But ladies and gentlemen…. it is here … live and in effect, rocking on my fingernails, the nail polish that at first grossed me out then intrigued me, the most unfortunately named nail polish is in my pretty little hands.. (I’m so excited!!)

I mentioned my hunt for BK here

I looked high and low all over Chicago land, I even had some people looking out of state and Beau Khaki didn’t want to be found (I swear I felt like I was hunting Big Foot) and finally I decided that I was just gonna go and purchase on Amazon… for $5.00 I mean compared to what other people are paying for polish and what people are paying for hard to finds on eBay 5 bucks isn’t not that big of a mark-up (I had actually decided hat I wasn’t gonna pay more than 20.00 for a bottle; thank goodness it didn’t com to that…. now let’s get to the polish!!

DSC02876This particular polish was apart of the Haute Rebel collection; and to be honest I probably saw this display in the store and was totally unimpressed by the color scheme and simply walked by.  Beau Khaki is a dusty sage green creme. It reminds me s lot of Essie Sew Psyched (which I didn’t realize how similar they are until I really looked at them together ) It’s a green polish but very neutral and is wearable in any season; when I first got this polish I was afraid that it could only be worn in the fall and winter months, but once I put this one I decided this polish is so pretty and so light that it could work year round.

There is nothing more satisfying than waiting forever for a polish only to find out that it is asDSC02878 perfect as you imagined it. OMG! If you treat this polish right, it will certainly return the favor, this little lovely is a one coater! After I say how brilliant my nails looked with one coat I was done! Complete opacity. Although this polish was a bit runny as long as take care not to add too much polish on the brush you should be just fine. The color on the nail is exactly as it is on the bottle there. I should also note that all pictures were taken without a top coat. And for you keen eyed readers out there, you might notice a huge crack in the handle of the bottle… well I was so excited that the polish finally came I dropped it and the handle broke into two… I WAS PANICKED… I hadn’t even had it for an hour… but I just added a bit of polish on the handle and secured it and let it sit over night…. next day it was good as new. (of course I did this because I was unable to locate my krazy glue… so now you know, sometimes nail polish can work in a pinch!)

DSC02881Tsuki seems interested in the polish; for now she’ll just sniff around, but seriously with her it’s hit or miss… but there was no way I could give this polish anything lower than 10 out of 10! PERFECT!! Color is great, application was easy peasy and it was a one coater….

3 days later there is some tip wearing despite the fact that I wrapped my nails, but that’s nothing new I’m tough on my nails… plus I never did get around to putting that top coat on, and that probably would have made a difference.
