Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 76

20140607_152740 DSC02923DSC02934

So for the month of June I said that I was gonna be on a “No Buy”  There is a certain amount of weight that I wanted to lose this month and I said that I wouldn’t buy any polish until I lost the weight…. but something happened. Walgreen’s had it’s Sinful Colors 99 cent sale again… I forgot to cancel my Julep box for the month, then I got my birthday coupon from Sally’s, then I went on vacation where my brother and sister in law gave me polish, then I went to Walgreens when I was on vacation and got more polish, got home then got another Sally’s coupon and went to get MORE polish… the Father’s day came around…. and I went to TJ Max and Marshalls… and I got MORE polish needless to say my No-Buy was an epic failure! Maybe I should try again net month. I’m slightly ashamed at the amount of polish that I have and the lack of self control (I didn’t even photograph all the polish I got….consider this the highlights…. but at least I’ll have lots to blog about)

I was looking to try something new, lately I have been really unhappy with the polishes that Julep has come out with, so on a whim I signed up for Color Me Monthly . Color Me Monthly is a monthly nail polish subscription that sends out an affordable bottle of non-toxic, vegan, and20140612_210653 cruelty-free polish in earth-friendly packaging. The subscription costs $7.00/month. This month I got something that honestly I wasn’t too jazzed about but I guess that’s the whole point of a subscription box service, try something new and get out of your comfort zone. And they’re giving away a 6-month subscription right now. clicky. I should also point out that the disclosure policy doesn’t count as I purchase this box myself!

1402625195905Candied Clementine  is an orange (think traffic cone orange)shade with yellow flecks of microglitter in it. Initially it goes on sheer, but it’s buildable and dries actually kind of matte. (which was a bit of a surprise to me) I requires at least three coats to get the achieved look. I was really happy to see that there was a good amount of microglitter in the first coat. And it’s very visible in the photos, it’s even more so in person. You can clearly see the microglitters in the bottle and the polish looks exactly the same on the nail, there is no color or shade variation at all.. Even without the use of flash (and if you can look closely you can see the microglitters on my nail..

20140612_210700The application of the polish was smooth and I had no issues at all with the brush. Although I was head over heels with my two previous CMM mailings, this wasn’t quiet me. The polish was a bit sheer for me and even after 3 coats there was still a VPL. Plus I’m not a fan of orange. But I did enjoy the shimmer and the application was great and it dried superfast. So this polish get’s a 7 out of 10! And if you’re looking for a good quality polish in a “surprise” color every month I would highly suggest signing up for this service.

I don’t think Tsuki was feeling it this week, she didn’t want to me photographed with the 1402637698306polish… maybe she felt like it was to cliché… you know orange and black… my cat is such a diva!

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 72

So my week 69 pick was one for the record books people. I had so many people write to me about their nail polish and how it turned out for me, I did a lot of testing with the polish, as mentioned in week 70 I purchased another bottle of the same polish so I got the same result, so I tried it again without a base coat… and I got the same. So finally after much frustration and outright confusion I contacted Sinful Colors via their website telling them about myDSC02791 experiences and asking them to finally settle the debate .. what this polish a matte or a satin finish.. well needless to say I got an email a day later saying that someone was going to look into the situation and get back to me soon. I rolled my eyes and figured that was the last I had heard from them…. well fast forward to this past Saturday when I got a letter from Erin Dillenschneider a Consumer Information Representative for Sinful Colors Professional, thanking me for  bringing my observations to their attention; although I didn’t get an answer about what type of finish Dream On was supposed to have I was given gift certificates for nail polish…so I guess this is something I may never know the answer to.  FYI: I didn’t realize that Sinful Colors parent company was Revlon…

These were the little beauties that I got with my gift certificates.

A few months back Dove Chocolate and Nicole by OPI teamed up together for an amazing sweepstakes! 25,000 lucky winners received two Nicole by OPI Dove Chocolate inspired polishes and a coupon for a bar of Dove Chocolate! It was a sweet deal!! Better After Dark is the milk chocolate inspired nail polish  that’s a really nice red toned brown, packed full of pink micro shimmer. The formula went on well, it was a little sheer and streaky at first but evened out nicely.

As you can see from the first coat the nail polish is really thin and streaky, so I had to take extraCollage care to make sure the coats were even and didn’t pool on the nail., but once you allow the nail polish to dry and apply your second coat, the nail polish really shows it’s true shade an you can get a good amount of that microshimmer

DSC02818

I gotta say that Nicole by OPI did a really good job with getting the shade right, it looked so much like milk chocolate I actually had to smell to polish to make sure that it wasn’t scented. There is something about a brown nail polish that instantly makes my skin look better, to be honest I have never considered wearing a brown nail polish in the spring/summer months, but I actually like this; and as you can se the color on the nail is not that far off from the color in the bottle.

And here is the final color, please excuse the nails, clearly this was before I did a clean upDSC02821 around the cuticles and skin, I added an accent nail using Klean Colors’ Firework which gives it just a little bit of shine. I have said this before but generally I’m not a big fan of the Nicole by OPI line for me it seems to be very kitschy  and sometimes I just don’t “get it” I’m blaming the Kardashian collection; it  just ruined it for me (it might also have something to do with the fact that I think they are repulsive human beings…), but I think this one might have changed my mind.

Although the polish started off with a bad note by being thing and streaky, it really erased all of my bad feelings by the second coat. Plus this shade looks amazing on me. so I have to give it a high score. So Better After Dark has earned a solid 9 out of 10! (Although Tsuki seemed a bit unphased by the color…)

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 71

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Generally I try to get my NPLClub posts on Tuesdays… I’ve been feeling under the weather… so you’re gonna get a ton of posts today (I’ll be posting in between naps…)

Before we go into this weeks pic, let me lament about last week’s pick. Great color, so great IDSC02771 did my toes in the color and got so many complements on the color and my manicure as a whole, but holy cow… it leaves a mess behind when 20140513_151958you remove it. My nails were so yellow that my doctor asked me if my liver was okay, he thought that maybe I was showing signs of jaundice. So just beware if you plan on using this polish, your nails are defiantly gonna need some TLC afterwards. (this was taken after they were buffed and soaked and you can still see a bit of yellowing)

I was looking to try something new, lately I have been really unhappy with the polishes that Julep has come out with, so on a whim I signed up for Color Me Monthly . Color Me Monthly is a monthly nail polish subscription that sends out an affordable bottle of non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free polish in earth-friendly packaging. The subscription costs $7.00/month. Once again I got another great spring color called Sirens, and before I even knew the name my first thoughts were, “how this reminds me of the sea, and mermaids, fish scales and all that jazz”… hell I was close enough.

DSC02752Sirens is a medium milky sea foam green with a shimmering microglitter. Very pretty and totally on trend for the season. As you can tell from the picture this is the first coat, so this particular polish requires at least two coats to get the achieved look. I was really happy to see that there was a good amount of micorglitter in the first coat. By the time I got to my second coat the polish was completely opaque.

You can clearly see the microglitters in the bottle and the polish looks exactly the same on theDSC02753 nail, there is no color or shade variation at all.. Even without the use of flash (and if you can look closely you can see the microglitters on my nail..

I loved this polish so much I matched my entire outfit to it… as you can see my bracelet and 20140511_115146rope belt match my manicure! And I wasn’t the only one who liked this polish Tsuki REALLY liked it… I sat the polish on the bed and see DSC02744assumed it was a toy and proceeded to carry it off to her bed… I was able to snap a picture before she bolted. Maybe this week I will do a little nail art with this polish, I think last month’s CMM pick would be a great complement to this

The application of the polish was smooth and I had no issues at all with the brush. Overall I was really impressed with this weeks pick and look forward to future CCM mailings. Now I know that I said the same thing about my previous CMM pick, but I have that I love the fact that this is a small operation which means there is extra care to make sure that each polish is perfect. And you know that I will find anything to pick apart  on my post, but this one seems to have done it again, I am VERY impressed. So this polish get’s a 10 out of 10! And if you’re looking for a good quality polish in a “surprise” color every month I would highly suggest signing up for this service.

I still really miffed by last weeks pick, I was so confused about how my manicure turned out. that I went and purchased two bottles from two separate stores and the results are the same… why is a seemly matte nail polish showing up as a satin finish on my nail? Do you think that it has something to do with the fact that I used a  base coat? And yes I did end up using a top coat, but only after it was completely dried with the satin finish… Now I won three bottles of a polish I’m not all that happy about… I’m seriously thinking about contacting Sinful Colors and seeing what the heck is going on. But no matter what Sinful Colors is still  one of my favorite brands of nail polish! The are a good price and very good quality polish (for the most part). I would highly recommend them to anyone who hasn’t tried them

DSC02713This week I wanted a brush start and low and behold I ended up with another neon color!
Innocent is a bright pop of Chartreuse–a light-medium yellow and green hue–with a creamy finish ( isn’t Chartreuse a fun word? …. say it with me Chartreuse…) This color is perfect for the warm weather that is upon (some of) us and not only is it’s eye catching it will look great on anyone.

The application of this polish was fairly easy, the polish was a tad bit on the thick side, so youDSC02709 should be a little careful as it has a tendency to pool if you have too much on the brush, but one coat of this polish and I was done, no need for a second coat, You know how one coat 20140506_110812_resizedpolishes excite me; and I didn’t have to worry.  And as you can tell the color on the nail is exactly the color in the bottle, so you shouldn’t have to worry that the same seems a bit off once you apply it to the nail. Another think that I observe while wearing this polish is that there is no subtle difference in the color based on the light that you’re in… it stays pretty consistent.

Once again I pulled out my nifty little dotting tool and created a simple looking contrast dots on the ring finger to complete the look. The manicure was then topped with Seche Ultra-V topcoat

DSC02725The application of the polish was smooth and I had no issues at all with the brush. Overall I was really impressed with this weeks pick This polish get’s a 10 out of 10! Ladies…run… run and go get this polish!
