It’s been 20 years since their last album, “The Show, the After Party ,the Hotel” (although “Diary of a Mad Band”, in my opinion is one of the best R&B albums EVER!) And I stanned this group like people stan EXO or Hansen….
The Past, The Present, The Future was released and honestly I didn’t think too much of it there have been so many whispers about a Jodeci reunion I never took them seriously, and after I saw Jo-Jo on VH1 “Couples Therapy” I was like, this is a hot mess (that entire season was hot freakin’ mess… I highly suggest you watch it.. for the Courtney Stodden factor), they aren’t coming back anytime soon. Let’s be honest one or more of them have been drugged out, boozed out, lifed out and after I while I just wrote them off and figured they would ride into obscurity like a lot of groups from the 90’s.
One thing that Jodeci has been known for is their “baby making songs” and this album serves of several. I think the thing that surprised me the most about this album was there wasn’t any surprises…. this album ‘and the songs) could have gone on any of their previous albums… and I like that because it makes it seem like little or no time has passed. When the album my first thought was, “please don’t tour…. please don’t come to Chicago….. I’m too old to be screaming and yelling and acting a fool” (I would still totally do it…. shame be damn)
Now let’s talk about this video, first things first I was reminded that Devante had a damn face tattoo.. let’s all take a mental pause, what goes through your mind when you decide to get a face tattoo, certainly, “this I gonna look hot when I’m 70” is not one of them. Second it was cold and there was snow, you want to me attempt to be sexy and sing in the snow and cold; I can barley stand the 10 minutes it takes to warm my car up. Third (this is gonna be slightly mean) but Jo-Jo looks like that old freaky guy from church that tries to hit on the young girls.. (they haven’t aged well at all…. that’s what drugs and hard living do to you) Fourth what the hell is that on Dalvin’s head it looks like a furry albino pig (I hope it’s fake) Yeah so overall I wasn’t all that impressed with the video, but let’s be honest their videos haven’t every really been anything to write home about. and since their too old to dance, I guess a winter mountain scene is the best we’re gonna get.
Despite my grumbling I’m glad that their back, I hope that they have some success (althogh I doubt that they will ever have the level of fame that they had back in the 90’s) and hopefully more music will come out before they decide to take another extended hiatus, all in all there is nothing wrong with a little nostalgia..
