How Was Your Christmas?

1. How was your Christmas? First off I wasn’t in the holiday spirit, and when I woke up Christmas morning I was just like, “I can’t wait for this day to be over” I spent the day and my parents and right after breakfast my step-father got ill and went back to bed. But with us four Christmas was very low-key, I was happy that. This year wasn’t great, but at the end of the day I spent it with my family and that was the most important thing. Now that Christmas is over, now I can start getting irritated with all the Valentine’s Day crap that will be hitting the store in the next few days…. it’s never ending.

2. Did you get any gifts you weren’t exactly happy with or just downright hated? I was very happy with everything that I got this year; but I’m always happy when people give me gifts….

3. Did you get any gifts that you loved? What was your favorite? All of them….the Fitbit, the wireless speaker, the Coach perfume, the new George Forman Grill, and a nifty pair of Cole Haan sunglasses.

CH glasses

4. Did you have a gathering (friends, family, co-workers) to celebrate and eat?  I spent the day with my parents then I went over to my aunt’s house for a few hours to end the night there… nothing out of the ordinary….just family

5. What is your favorite food and/or drink of the season? Although I didn’t have any this year (what’s up with that?) I love having Hot Apple Cider.

6. Do you have any sporting events you like to watch on or around Christmas? I’m generally not a sports fan, but the Bulls were playing the Lakers on Christmas so I watched a little bit of that… let me just say that their holiday uniforms were hideous.

nbachisuni

7. Do you go to any tree lightings or trail or lights? Nope, since I wasn’t in the holiday mood this year, I figured just showing up to my parents was all the holiday glee I could muster.

8. Did you ever have your photo taken with Santa as a child?  Yes, who doesn’t have that one picture of themselves in tears on Santa’s La

9. If you have kids, do you take them to get their photo taken with Santa? No kids, but I’m always jealous of people who get pictures of Santa and their dogs…. you can’t do that with cats, it’s such a shame Tsuki is so photogenic.

10391022_10153076583080995_1890965710009370171_n

10. Do you gather at a particular person’s house every year for Christmas, do you rotate who hosts Christmas, or do you just do your own thing? Since 2 out of 3 of my mom’s children are in Chicago we just go to her house for the holidays

Celestial Seasonings Taste Test

unnamed_Kr7iVfj.png.342x341_q85_crop[2]

I received the Celestial Seasonings’ Candy Cane Lane Tea  complimentary in my Frosty VoxBox for testing purposes from Influenster . This websites disclosure policy is here:

20141228_113900

Here is a bit of a disclaimer before we begin. I generally don’t drink green tea since large amounts will interact with medication that I’m taking, and I’m not a fan of peppermints or candy canes, so this should be a really interesting taste test, but I’m going to be as honest as possible. The sample had two bags in there, but for this test I only used one. I decided to put the tea in a holiday themed mug to heighten the experience.

SMELL

When I opened the package I was instantly  “assaulted” with a strong peppermint scent; but after the tea is steeped the scent becomes a lot more mellow and as time went by I began to smell more vanilla than anything else.

LOOK

Not sure if it was me, but this green tea is a little bit darker than what I’m used to seeing, but I’m sure it has to do with the other flavorings that are added in the tea, more specifically  the roasted carob and chicory, cinnamon and black berry leaves.

20141228_115648

TASTE : (Tried it  with and without sweetener )

I took a gulp and swirled it in my mouth  letting in a tiny bit of air like you see those professional wine tasters do… not sure if it worked or not, but the tea didn’t taste too bad actually it didn’t really have a very distinct flavor, but give it a few seconds and that peppermint mint hits you with it’s minty after thought

Adding sweetener to the tea didn’t really affect the flavor of it at all… (I used a packet of Splenda)

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Overall, considering everything that I said at the beginning of this review I think that I would actually purchase this tea. This would be a nice addition to my collection; I think I would pull it out when I have colds or have an upset stomach (apparently peppermint/candy cane is good when your tummy is upset). I actually think that I might get a box of this along with the Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride on my next shopping trip.

Other holiday teas include: Caramel Apple Dream, Cranberry Vanilla Wonderland, Gingerbread Spice, Nutcracker SweetSugar Plum Spice, Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride and Sweet Pumpkin Harvest. These teas retail for about $3.39 .

Writing Prompt:

First Post September 9, 2011 “Why The Hell Am I Doing This? (I think at this point I had lost about 5 pounds)

1

This is me… well virtual me at my current weight 279.6  I’m round, fluffy, basically I’m. fat! You know me, I’m the girl that scopes out the room to count the number of other fatties  .I have rolls where I don’t want them, my thighs rub together, people might mistake me for being pregnant… and when it get’s hot I sweat in places that a person should not sweat. You will not see me running, playing a sport, or wearing a bikini, I prefer to chillax in front of the TV and I do not own a Freak-em dress. I have not been accountable for the things I put in my mouth, I have not been accountable for my fitness…. but all of that changes TODAY! Today I officially ditch the BEFORE.

TODAY I become accountable! TODAY I change! TODAY I become the AFTER!!!!

Why AM I DOING THIS

  • I want to look better naked (don’t you want to look at yourself naked without pointing out every negative thing about your body?)
  • I want to be able to climb the stairs without being winded
  • I want my knees to stop hurting
  • I want to walk into a room without feeling like people are staring at me
  • I want to feel beautiful
  • I want to live longer!

December 29, 2011. Over 500 posts later…

This is me, well virtual me at my current weight of 211 pounds. There are times when I ask myself why the hell am I 2doing this? Let’s be honest I ask myself this every single day. but then I remember where I was in the beginning. I was unhappy and I was fat. Well before we start talking semantics I’m still fat… This blog originally started as a way for me to remain accountable for me weight loss, and for the most par it still is, but I’ve expanded it to things that I find interesting, or just when I feel like there is something I need to say, never in a million years did I still think that I would still be blogging and to be honest I can’t believe that I am still sticking to the whole weight loss thing. So many times I thought that I had it, and every single time I went about my business, lived my life and slowly the weight came back….

It has not been easy, and who ever says that it is a liar. I’ve had lots of set backs, I’ve loss a ton, gained it back, loss and gained again (now on the losing streak) I’ve met like minded people who have encouraged me and understand how difficult this is.

When I look at the virtual version of me, I feel like those weight watchers commercials you know the one where you talk to the past version of yourself. So many things are different.I still prefer chillaxing in front of the TV, and I do own a “freakum dress” I am not accountable of my fitness (and my food) I track and count calories, my activity tracker also helps, I have a gym membership and have gym equipment in my home (something that I never expected) but more importantly I am no  longer count the fatties in the room, while losing weight, I gained self confidence and now I know that my body is mine, it should never be compared to someone else, and no I look for people who are like minded and enjoy the same things that I do.

Am I the after? No, but something that I realized is that I will never be the after. I will always be a work in progress.

TODAY I will continue to be accountable, TODAY I will welcome the change, TODAY I continue to be a work in progress.

WHY I DID THIS

  • I want to look better naked (don’t you want to look at yourself naked without pointing out every negative thing about your body?)
  • I want to be able to climb the stairs without being winded
  • I want my knees to stop hurting
  • I want to feel beautiful
  • Despite my health issues I want to be able to fight off multiple myeloma and liver disease without having the overhanging obesity sign hangin’ over my head. I have enough going on, I would be pissed off if the reason I died was due to my weight (something that I can change)

Until Next Time….

Influenster’s Frosty VoxBox Review

unnamed_Kr7iVfj.png.342x341_q85_crop

Disclosure: This complimentary box was received for review purposes From Influenster. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received. This website Disclosure Policy is here

infl

Although I get a lot of boxes , samples, and freebies, I am always excited to hear that I have been picked to receive one of the Influenster VoxBox boxes!

If you aren’t familiar with Influenster, it is a free-to-join community of trendsetters, social media masterminds, and educated consumers who live to give opinions of products and experiences. They invite members to sample their “VoxBox” programs, totally free of charge in exchange for sharing honest opinions in via reviews and on special media. You don’t need to have a blog to be eligible or anything like that.  Anyone can sign-up!

Based on the quiz that you fill out when they”pre-select” you for this box, you can generally get a pretty good idea of what’s in the box.  Of course, you don’t know for sure until it comes, but I had an idea of what to expect.

Just like with most subscription boxes, VoxBox sends an information card with product details, etc.  You are required to take a survey on your box and can, if you wish, blog about it, Instagram it, tweet about it, etc. to help you earn more points, but again, only the quiz is necessary!  Here is what the Influenster’ Frosty  VoxBox contained:

McCormick Gourmet Thyme                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      $4.79

20141223_170816   This is perfect for me at the moment since I’m currently try to expand my culinary skills and seasoning are just what I need, now to be honest I’m not sure if I’ve even used thyme in a recipe , but after looking around I got big plans… roasted chicken with lemon and thyme….sounds like perfection!

Rimmel Scandeleyes Waterproof Khol Kajai Eyeliner                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  $4.49

I tend to always wear eyeliner, but  the one thing that is always bugs me is that it smudges and runs, and let’s face it I’m a crier so I tend purchase the waterproof variety, but I’ve never tried this brand (although I’ve heard of the brand). I applied the liner lightly on my eyes and I was shocked at how pigmented the color was… which means I can have fun, be creative without going over my eyes twently times to get the look that I want. I wore the liner all day and it stayed no problem… this one is a winner!

Gentle Eye Makeup Remover20141223_170633                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  $7.49

One of the things that I noticed when I reading about the Rimmel Eyeliner was that a lot of people were complaining that it was really difficult to remove, so I’m assuming that they didn’t use this make up remover. Now as a rule of thumb I don’t use an eye make up remove, and I guess that’s always why I wake up looking like a panda… but after using this product it’s pretty safe to say that I have been converted.

I love that this product had no smell and it was very gentle on my skin (hence the name) and a few swipes and all my eye make up including my water proof eyeliner! Which is always notoriously difficult to remove. I would purchase this again.

20141223_170708

How much do I love this brush? a whole lot, when I first saw this brush I though that it looked pretty heavy, but when I picked it up I was so surprised by how light and easy to handle it was very light and easy to handle I redid my hair this weekend and before I even used the brush I was concerned about how the brush would react with Ethnic hair, I didn’t want it to snag and damage my hair… but I had to reason to worry at all… it worked like a dream. The brush made such a good impression on my I have to check out the other products from this company. I think this is my favorite item out of the VoxBox

Celestial Seasoning Candy Cane Lane Decaf Green Tea

20141223_170731

When I first say this tea /I actually said that I was gonna skip it but after doing the Taste Test, I realized that it’s not so bad and this is something that I can have occasionally. What got me the most was the smell… it was really strong. I was also given a coupon, so I’ll be rushing to the store to get this and the Sugar Cookie one… yumm!

And I gotta say that I really love this companies slogan… “You are what you steep” such a cute play on words.

When I turned 30 the freakout about wrinkles began, luckily it’s not something that I deal with, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not activly trying to prevent them for as long as I can, unfortunatly I’m in the middle of an allergic reaction (I think it might have been the perfume that I  received as a gift… and even though I didn’t put it on my face) have broken out, so at the time of the unboxing I was unable to try this product *sad face*

NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Sugar Plum                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             $1.99

 20141223_170645

When ever I get new cosmetics I get really excited… and new lipsticks make me squee with delight, when I although I have used NYC products before I was a bit iffy about the color of this lipstick it seems a bit light for my complexion, but after wearing it sort of looks like a nude on me; and I generally wear darker shades, I think that I’ll have to wear it a couple of more times before I get used to it. But the one thing that really caught my attention was the smell, I don’t know what it is, but I really liked the light scent and the price point is phenomenal.

So you’re probably wondering why there isn’t a picture of MY Fruit Vine Bites, well that’s pretty easy to answer, I ate them, they were the first thing I grabbed out of my VoxBox and the first thing that I ate, I knew I was gonna have to blog about it (and take a picture) but my greediness knows no bounds and for that you get a stock picture. Strangely enough I had never seen this product before … apparently they’ve been doing quite a bit of traveling promotion (and I missed it). I love Fruit Vines but these seems to have an extra kick. I had the cherry flavored ones, they weren’t to sweet with just the right amount of tartness… I went to go look for another bag at the grocery store (so I could photograph it) but the Walmart was bare… don’t worry I’m still on the lookout for more bags….

Tyra Takes On Weight Watchers–Week 15

Fitness

This week there are only a handful of people at the meeting. I expect next week there will be a full house tonight: and also this may seem counterproductive ill be avoiding the gym for the next month or so. which means me and my elliptical machine at home or going to become best friends and I’m going to have to kick it up a notch in order to get the result that I get at the gym at home.

The topic this week was meal planning, and for the first time in a long time I felt like this was a subject that I have already mastered. When I started Weight Watchers I wanted to make things as easy as possible, so one of the things that I do is when I’m getting ready for bed I’ll take out my tracker and track exactly what I’m going to have for the next day that way there is absolutely no question about what I will be eating and there’s little room for me to go off and straight and have snacks, it’s also really easy on us they said he was going to go out to eat with friends or family already know what I’m going to have so that gives me in a lot of numbers. Have use at a restaurant and then I just go and look at the menu online and pick out my meal out ahead of time. I’ve also become one of those people probably because I’m lazy; I just cook one meal and have it last for several days in the week…just texted me a couple more and I’m good to go.so the only meal during the day that I only really have to think about is my lunch. losing weight is hard enough so whenever I can find a shortcut for something that makes my life a little bit easier I’m all for it.

So let’s get to it. This week I can’t wait semicolon but I knew this week was going to be a game since this is my ” special” time of the month. internal around this time I have rejected pound gain and it was really no different this week I can’t 1.8 pounds … but overall I’m still able to meet the goal that might mess up a couple weeks ago which was to lose after the Christmas holiday in the show a lot at the meeting which in this case with. 4 pounds although it’s little it’s still a loss and I’m going to celebrate it!

weight

Today, at the meeting I was recognized for 4 month attendance; heck I didn’t even realize they had that kind of award. My Weight Watchers leader mentioned that there was   a bit of history behind this particular award. When Weight Watchers started Jean Nidetch  tsaid that Weight Watchers participants could reach their goal weight in 16 weeks! (As you can see aren’t counting the same … I was told the very first meeting is week 0…. clearly someone changed their mind…. whatever!) Can you imagine that? And apparently for the most part they did…have to research this I need to see what has changed since the beginning of Weight Watchers to now I’m sure Ill get an interesting read…. but anyway here is my 4 month charm… it’s it lovely… two charms in two weeks….

20141228_172308

Since I switched over to a monthly pass since my pre-paid insurance ran out I was able to get a new ActiveLink for free, the problem is that I got a Fitbit for Christmas and am now using that one so either I’m gonna give this to someone OR I might do a giveaway on the website… it all depends on what the response is. It’s a lot smaller that the original one, and apparently it’s more Fitbit like (tracks sleep and can be worn on the wrist).

20141228_172450

As the New Year approaches I wanted to continue on the current downward trajectory that I’m currently on as far as my weight loss is concerned. Recognizing the non- scale victories. what’s the time in DC with you to go up and down what I’m missing out if it’s small changes that are happening to my body for example till Saturday by my side gone for now simply”coin purses” to be honest I wouldn’t even looked until somebody hugged me and said that I felt smaller to them other changes in my body that I’ve noticed one of the biggest things that I’ve notice has been that the confidence that I have in my body is a lot more than what it used to be.

This year my wish for you or for anyone who’s losing weight and reading this plot is a simply remember that this process takes time, don’t be so hard on yourself and celebrate the small victories. So this will be my last “Tyra Takes On…” for 2014 and I’m looking forward to what the next year brings…..
