nail addict

Last week I wore that really cute pink from Orly, because then nail polish was pigmented I was a little concerned that the polish was gonna stain, but it didn’t and it only enforces my love for this polish, ( and just like I said last week)  I loved it… I really liked it, and to be honest I hate taking it off. Since this was a crème polish I had no real issues removing this polish. I can’t wait until my next trip to Sally’s or Ulta… I’m defiantly gonna be wearing this one often, nail border

Never in the history of NPLC have I ever made a grown so freakin’ audible that even I wondered if I was gonna post this… and it all steams from two words MARIAH CAREY! As an artist I think she derserves all the accolades that she’s been given, but just as a human being I think she might be a little nuts.

20140923_191157I think it’s clear that I’m not a fan of her, but we aren’t here to talk abut her crazy nutty antics where here to talk nail polish so here we go….

I got this nail polish as a two-pack at Marshalls, and (because the other was) I assumed this one would be textured as well, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t (I ‘m not a big fan of textured polish) and I was really excited about the color because it’s the exact color when I think of the changing leaves.

OPI Sprung is a , coppery, gold glass flecky in a reddish copper base (and it seems like there is a little bit of fuchsia put in it) It’s weird (at least for me) that this polish is a foil  and a shimmer at  the same time. The one thing that I noticed was that this show is super sheer, but it’s completely buildable I was able in 3 coats, I think more than anything I was surprised about how quickly the polished dried and how much shine the polish had. But even after 3 coats I still had visible nail lines and that annoys the hell out of me. The collection includes  eight shades, four of them being a new liquid sands.
All last week I kept seeing fall themed manicures, and this one would be perfect for leaves (color wise)… but I don’t that this would be a a good polish to use for nail art because it’s so thin. This polish is lookvery similar to another OPI Polish  Warm & Fozzie , which doesn’t have as much a pink undertone as this one, but could totally be used if you couldn’t find this one.

When I was looking online at other nail bloggers swatches, I noticed that this particular polish looks good on pretty much all skin tones. As you can tell from the picture the color on the nail  is pretty much exact to the color in the bottle.

20140923_191205I will admit that  I didn’t not want to like this polish, honestly I try to avoid all things Mariah, BUT maybe It was cooler fall air, or maybe I am seriously generous, but I did like this colors despite some of the issues that I had with the polish (the formula being too thin, the visible nail lines, and the chipping on Day 2 of wear) this polish get’s a score of 7 out of 10. I’m gonna try this polish one more time and see if a different base coat and more layers of polish (honestly 3 is my limit) and a good top coat will make a difference.

Tsuki really took to this polish, I think because it was so shiny, I literally had to take it from her….

Until Next Time… enjoy the dulcet tones of  (wait that’s not right…..) Mariah Carey

The Great Divide

Writing Prompt: When reading for fun, do you usually choose fiction or non-fiction? Do you have an idea why you prefer one over the other?

First of all I love books, and I love reading, I think that people should read what moves them. But I think that non-fiction forces the reader to use critical thinking, while fiction allows the user to use their creativity. Reading enables the mind to think over objects of interest, which enable a person in making informed decisions, its food for the soul, for it nourishes the human intellect in probing things deeper, analyzing things, and provide guidance to people, to instances they have not yet been exposed to life.

I spent a LOT of time in school. And I spent more time than I wanted reading in college and in grad school… so back then when I wanted to relax I gravitated towards fiction…romances in particular…. there is nothing more satisfying that getting lost in a story, and being able to read it until the story was done (as is the case when I read a Harlequin Romance).  As I’ve gotten older my tastes have changed a bit, I still love a good romance story, but I’m open to a lot more genres… I always tell people that a good makes me want to either curse out the author or give them a hug (Okay that’s not true… I read 50 Shades of Grey, and I REALLY wanted to smack E.L. James because the story was so poorly edited and her character Anastasia  was so cringe worthy I used wanted to scream, “are you seriously that damn stupid!” and that story was really not all that great). Lately I’ve been reading a lot of books about American History and Biographies on Monarchs of Europe..who knows what I’ll be reading in the net few weeks…. there are so many books, and so little time.

Mouths Wide Shut

Writing Prompt: Are you a picky eater? Share some of your favorite food quirks with us (the more exotic, the better!). Omnivores: what’s the one thing you won’t eat?

Not as much as I used to be. As I’ve gotten older I love the idea of trying new things and expanded my pallet; now if you asked my mother she would say that all her children were picky eaters, but she’s super picky too.  When I was growing up there were a lot of things that my mother cooked that I didn’t eat….like pork chops, rice, cream style corn… but I wouldn’t even put them on my plate… FYI I still don’t eat cream style corn, I think it’s gross.

Now my younger brothers for years…. YEARS they only lived on Peanut Butter and Jelly, my mother got so concerned that they weren’t eating she talked to their pediatrician about it. He felt like as long as they were eating and eating until satisfaction, he didn’t find anything wrong with it. they would eventually grown out of it (My 25 year old brother still eats a lot of PB&J sandwiches). But as an adult I don’t consider myself so much as picky, just more aware of the foods that I choose to eat, more often than not I will ask, “how many calories in a serving” and base my decision on that.  The only food quirk I will admit to is that I don’t eat a lot of red meat…. only because I don’t like the heaviness feeling that I get afterwards… but every once and a while I get a craving for it..

So there you go, I’m pretty boring when it comes to food… you could say my diet is pretty “white bread” (although I don’t eat white bread either Sad smile )

Friend Makin’ Monday

If you’ve taken part in Friend Makin Mondays before then you are familiar with the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to read and comment on a couple of other posts.

This week’s random questions come from me….  if you some topic/question suggestions for FMM, please email your ideas to Sarah at…So let’s get started

1. If I gave you $10,000 what would you spend it on? When I opened this I was gonna say a new cell phone, but I un-expectantly had to purchase a new one today because my old one just died… wouldn’t charge, screen wouldn’t stay on… apparently the hard drive … motherboard or whatever was slowly shutting down and would be dead by the Wednesday Sad smile. I wanted a new phone, I wanted the phone that I had to purchase today, BUT I wanted to buy it because I wanted to, not that I needed to.

So back to the original question, I was take $4,000 and give it to my mom, and for the rest I would use to move and secure a place in Arizona.

2. If you could watch your favorite movie now, what would it be? It would be either Sense and Sensibility, Lost in Austen OR Austenland. I’m sure that everyone reading this is sensing a theme.

lost in austenaustenlandsense

3. If you could talk to anyone in the world, who would it be? I would want to talk to my grandfather again, (I know everyone says this) but when he passed away I lost something really precious. He was one of the few people in my life who would seriously tell me like it is, then tell me how much he loved me, and how special I was, because his daughter (who was equally special and precious to him) gave birth to me. Even writing this makes me tear up a little bit.

4. If you could wish one thing to come true this year, what would it be?

I would love for it to snow on Christmas day – but I know that isn’t likely to happen in California.

5. If you could live in any period of history, when would it be? Oh my goodness this is so hard, you know every single time I say I want to live in a certain time period, I look at the food they were eating back them (Thanks to The Supersizers Go… ) I’m gonna have to pass on this one. (You all should totally watch this show… you’d probably change your mind too)

6. If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be? I would stop being so fearful of putting myself out there.

7. If you could have any question answered, what would it be? What is my life expectancy … considering all the medical issues I have.

8. If you could watch your favorite TV show right now, what would it be? I wouldn’t say that it’s my favorite cause all my TV shows aren’t on yet… but I am really liking Red Band Society Right Now

9. If you could have any kind of pet, what would you have? I absolutely love my cat Tsuki, but I have always wanted a French bulldog (and name her Lola). I may actually get on in the near future.

10. If you could do your dream job 10 years from now, what would it be? 10 years from now I would love to be writing my third book.. and sending it in to the publisher.

As my Vietnamese  friends would say…cho đến khi tôi gặp lại anh!

No Excess

Writing Prompt: “Perhaps too much of everything is as bad as too little.” – Edna Ferber

By now most people have heard that Sting isn’t leaving his fortune to his children when he dies, because he wants his children to earn their way and not have to depend on the money their father earned to get them through life. (source). Although most of the media went agog about his statement, I agreed whole hardily when what he said (could be the way that I was raised, could be the fact that I don’t have a fortune… who knows).

When I was growing up I would always hear people how hard work and perseverance always made you a stronger person; if you always have people throwing things at you (instead of working hard for it) you’re never gonna learn the value of hard work (or money). I think teaching your children the value of hard work is just as important of teaching your children to bathe or brush their teeth.

I always think about the show Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, they have luxury cares and wear super expensive brands, but then seem so out of touch with reality… I’m sure they lived charmed lives, but honestly I don’t think they would be able to survive if mommy and daddy stopped supporting them and they moved out of Beverly Hills.
