What I Ate Wednesday


So clearly this is not an original thought WIAW was originated from Peas and Crayons  and a lot of other bloggers have started doing it as well; and since I can’t be original and I really like the idea of doing this… I decided to give it whirl as well. This will pretty much be a mish-mash of stuff,  some days I will try a new technique or perhaps I’ll be eating something for the first time as is the case today… and someday it might be leftover chili…who knows, and I guess that’s part of the fun. When I first started blogging it was to remain accountable with my exercise and food intake, so this is kind of takes me back… Very little of this is planned… but it’s 100% honest…

WIAW Breakfast

This morning I was craving cold cereal, which is odd because it’s very rare that I eat cold cereal … thank goodness for fruit loops And now that I’ve eaten them, I probably won’t eat them 20140428_120208again for another 3 months. I know it’s probably not the healthiest… but the tummy wants what the tummy wants, but I wills ay this I really, really like the Trop50 I’m not a huge orange juice fan, and this doesn’t irritate me around the mouth like others do.

I found this by accident at my local Costco  and the box I found have 60 in them! Seriously 60… who can eat all of that?? So it was nice that mom was with me to share. I wonder if their sales increase when they are giving a product as sample? They certainly got us … I had this right before I went to workout

Bear Creek Tortilla Soup

I have to be honest that I didn’t make this soup from scratch, it’s actually Bear Creek soup and20140428_183244 I added my own chicken to it (I actually used to the rotisserie chicken that was at Costco… so no looking, and the bag that I had was able to serve 8 – 1 cup servings, and I paired that with some Rosemary and Olive oil bread… I gotta be honest I spent a good amount of time just sniffing the bread…. it smelled soooo good.

I really do love these things… (and to be honest I love them even more, because they are helping  get some nail polish from Special K) The perfect little combination of salty and sweet)



My general caloric intake is 1200 calories per day, and I didn’t get a chance to work out but I was still able to come under my calorie goal today…. I gotta start adding some color in my diet, I’m looking at the pictures and I realize how bland my meals are starting to look.

I am on a hunt. I am on the hunt for Sinful Colors’ Beau Khaki, it’s got to be one of the mostdownload (1) inappropriate nail polish names that I have ever heard and I have decided that I need it! I need it in my life. I have seen it on eBay and Amazon and they want a lot of money for it. So if any of my readers find it at your local Walgreens, Wal-Mart or Target Store, let me know, I am willing to pay for the polish as well as the shipping…if worst comes to worst I will buy it on eBay (ugh!!)

Finally as a last ditch effort to take part of the Sinful Colors $.99 sale at Walgreens, I had to travel all the way to China Town and go to the Walgreen’s there to find some nail polishes, as I motioned last week, the two Walgreen’s near my house were tapped out, so to say that I happy with my meager selections was an understatement. I was only able to get four polishes… but I was still a very happy girl.


This color is part of Sinful Colors Bright Essentials Collections. One of my previous picks (and one of my favorite blue’s ) was also part of this  collection. I am making an effort of wearing more bright colors, and this one certainly fits the bill.

Dream on would be classified a bright violet (actually more of an orchid shade) polish with a satin finish; now I did look up this polish and some people actually said this polish had a matte finish.
The formula on this polish is a bit thin, so you will need at least 3 coats to get it opaque. Not gonna like, I almost gave up on this polish because it’s so thin, every time I would move my hand or try to polish another finger I would end up smudging the polish or it would find it’s way on my hand.  So take your time with this one. One thing that I learned about this polish is that it is notoriously hard to capture the true color of the polish so it may look different in the photographs in this post…even though they were taken while I was in the same position, and in the same amount of light. And word on the curb is that this polish is an exact dupe to Zoya’s Charisma


I gotta say, nothing say spring like a bright neon color and this one certainly hits the nail on the 20140428_145751head. I was concerned about this shade would look on me, but screw that… it looks fantastic on me! I will be honest I am having a hard time wrapping my head round this polish… it seems to be a bit of a chameleon some of the bottles are satin and some are matte… seems very strange.

I did want to do a little nail art, but I wasn’t;t in the mood do to anything time consuming… so dots were it. For this particular art (as you can see there is no rhyme or reason… which is the fun when you choose dots) I I used Sinful Colors20140428_153629 White on White and Endless Blue,,

Seems like Tsuki liked it, but I can only give it a 6 out 10! If I were to buy another bottle of this polish who’s to say it will be exactly the same… too many unknown variables for me. Have you ever tried this polish? Was your experience different than mine. Let me know in the comments below.

Friend Makin Mondays: Life Skills



All about Queens Day in AmsterdamSo a few days ago the Netherlands celebrated their very first King’s Day(Koningsdag), why am I even mentioning this since I don’t live in the Netherlands, nor am I of Dutch decent? If you are a long time reader of this blog then you might downloadremember that I am a huge fan of Princess Beatrix , I even wore my Zoya nail polish “Beatrix” during the week of her abdication.  I am a huge fan of Beatrix as well as the entire family and honestly how can you not love a woman who’s worn the same hair style for over 40 years…You can always tell when it’s (Queen’s or ) King’s Day… everyone and everything is decked out in orange

CaptureSo what were my Mountains and Molehills this week? My Mountain? Check out this snapshot of Tsuki’s instagram (it happened about 20 minutes ago)  My molehill this week was taking Tsuki to the veterinarian on Friday, after talking to the doctor and discussing the situation, we both came to the conclusion that it was best to proceed with the biopsy, after they took her vitals they took her back… and I burst into tears, I didn’t stop crying until they brought her back and I was able to see for myself that she was okay. We get the results back no latter than Tuesday and in the mean time I’m just keeping an eye on her, she’s still a little tender, but otherwise she’s back to normal. Before I forget I’m not sure if you know but Tsuki wrote her very first blog post AND she has an instagram…she’s a true diva!

Life Skills

1. Do you know how to drive a stick shift?

No, and to be honest I feel a little lacking because of it. I will never be able to drive internationally…. Sad smile

2. Do you know how to jump stat a car?

Nope I don’t. BUT I do have jumper cables in my car… and yes I’ve had to use them 3 times so far. I keep saying that I’m going to back one of those electronic jumpers in case I’m stranded in the middle of no where.. but then again, there is always AAA

3. Do you know how to perform CPR?

I think it’s really important for everyone to have a basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR. But yes I am certified in First Aid CPR and AED.

4. Do you know how to hang a picture?

First of all I think anyone who’s every lived in an apartment or lived in a dorm room knows alternate ways of hanging a picture in your room… but traditionally speaking I do know how to hand a picture. I use a level and everything.

5. Do you know how to ski?

A big NO! As a black person I jokingly say that “we are a tropical people, we don’t ski” and for all you non black people out there that is a HUGE misconception. There is actually something called the National Brotherhood of Skiers My high school would go on ski trips all the time, and when I was living in Las Vegas I wanted to go but I’m a big scary cat, and I’m afraid of heights, and I’m too much of a control free to “glide” down a mountain with only poles and skis to guide me.

6. Can you draw a basic map of the world?

Never tried…. so I guess I can attempt to do so… hey didn’t turn out half bad, I think I forget Hawaii…and Florida is incomplete…


7. Can you do a decent dive into a swimming pool?

Oh hell no! I’m still kinda iffy on the swimming, plus I’m accident prone. I was actually walking on a deck and slipped and fell into the pool…. so wait… I guess “technically” that is diving!!

8. Can you open a champagne bottle?

Yes… considering that I can’t drink alcohol… and haven’t been able to o so for pretty much my entire life (thanks for no liver disease) I know lots of tricks

9. Do you know what to do if you spill red wine on the carpet?

Nope…I don’t have carpets and I don’t drink red wine… so that’s a simple fix1

10. Do you know the proper way to fold a fitted sheet?

Yes, and I learned how to properly do it from Oprah and Martha Stewart… it’s funny how you see something on TV and you remember it.

So the current count of things Tyra can do is 8 out of 10! So that’s bad…..not bad at all!!! After last weeks FMM a lot of people reached out to me either leaving a message here or emailing me sending me good thoughts and positive vibes, sharing their pet stories and I just want to say from the bottom of my heart Thank You… Thank You Very Much!!! I look forward to spending many, many healthy years with Tsuki!

How deciding a Life of Yes turned into a Challenge #2

Or as I  prefer to call it, ”How living a life of yes is turning into a great big mess”

Here is part one

It has been a while since I wrote a blog entry that was entirely devoted to my weight loss and my fitness regime, but if you read the previous post you know that was partly due to several health issues that I am currently contenting with, to the point where I feel like it’s almost derailed my weight-loss journey.

My main concern is still losing weight at a healthy an sensible pace that doesn’t effect my transplanted liver or something that will negatively affect my bone especially as they are weakening due to my multiple myeloma. Being on various medications always makes weight loss a little but  more difficult than the average healthy person. I started a C25K program but had to stop due to the severe fatigue and “surprise” kidney stones. The goal is to get back in the saddle, but I have to take a long, honest look at what I am currently capable of doing and create a workout plan around that. The ultimate goal start running and to start participating in runs/ 5k’s/10k’s.

The Dirty Girl 5k is this June. One of the blogs that I follow mentioned that she participates in Jost virtual race; and you know me I always want to try something new. They have 5k and 10k’s for $25 and Half and Whole Marathons are $35. Included in the price is a medal and a racing bib. I love the fact that I’ll be able to run white helping a different cause/charity every single month.

I have gained weight, which I knew was going to happen. As explained here , as I didn’t lose weight in the healthiest weight (even my doctor told me that I would gained weight as I started eating food again)  And I will admit I’m not happy with the fact that I gained weight, but I am still under 200 pounds so that makes me happy.

Who ever said that going to the gym was going to be easy is a liar! Even after a year I still dread going ; it still remains a struggle. In the past my gym regime was 2 hours (1 hour of cardio, 30 minutes of weights and another final 30 minutes of cardio) 5 days a week.  Although I have noticed a change in my body, my muscles are stronger but my problem at the moment seems to be food; sweets in particular. I make a conscious effort to make good food choices, but I have to be honest and say that cookies, brownies, pretty much any baked good under the sun. It remains a struggle; especially during my menstrual cycle (as it seems like my stomach is a bottomless pit willing to consume anything)

I continue to be amazed a t how far I have some in my journey and at the same time I’m amazed how how difficult  my journey remains. Two years ago I took a chance and said yes. Yes to join a rag-tag group of people who  wanted to lose weight. Yes, to talking care of myself and to devote a small time everyday to myself; this included exercise or spending quality times on myself  and making myself healthy. Despite this journey being difficult I have never once regretted that decision. I am so much happier and healthier that I was 2 years ago.

As my health continues to worsen and the multiple myeloma begins to progress the reason to stay fit takes on a different facet. I don’t know what type of treatment that I will be taking or how this cancer will affect my body, but for now more than ever I want to successfully battle this cancer and if going to the gym everyday and jogging and sweating like a pig will make me a little bit healthier  then damn it I’m going to do it.

I’m excited to do my virtual run next month. I haven’t decided if I’m going to do the 5k or the 10k. Have any of my dear followers ever participated in a virtual race? Did you enjoy your experience? What’s your story? Tell me in the comments?
