February Photo A Day 2014

 Cameras-Photography

feb-2014-fmsphotoaday

So I had every intention of doing this last month, you know starting the year off with a creative bang…. blah, blah, blah, clearly that didn’t happen. I blame the fact that a lot of stuff happened last month. But I’m back!!! And I’m determined to start again. All pictures have been take with my cell phone, unless noted.

So what are the rules? Glad you asked

HOW TO PLAY PHOTO A DAY

Playing photo-a-day couldn’t be easier. It really couldn’t. Here’s how to play:
Grab your camera or phone or photo-taking-device.
Look at the monthly list to find the prompt for the day. {The number corresponds to the date of the month}.
Take a photo using the prompt as inspiration. So for February the prompt for day 1 is ‘you’. So take a photo of you. Take your reflection, your shadow, part of your body

Now you’ve taken a picture, it’s time to share it. This is the fun part. You can share to whichever social media platform you like, for me I like Facebook and Instagram best, oh and Twitter too. Make sure you add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday to your caption so people can find you, and others know what you’re doing.

WHERE TO PLAY

Instagram: Just upload your photo, and add a caption and the hashtag #FMSphotoaday and then share.
Facebook: There are a few options here. You can simply share on your own personal page, among your own friends. Or you can upload to FatMumSlim’s page wall,
or to the FMS Photo A Day Facebook group. You can join it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FMSphotoaday/ Now that Facebook has hashtags, simply add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday when you share your photos and you’ll be able to see which of your friends are playing along too. It’s cool!
Blog: If you have a blog, you could share each day or do a wrap up of all the photos at the end of the month.
Tumblr: Add your daily photos to your Tumblr feed.
Flickr: You can get their app and share your photos there, or upload on their web version. We also have a photo a day group
here.
Twitter: You can share on Twitter by uploading the photo and sharing the hashtag #FMSphotoaday.

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4
Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8
Day 9 Day 10 Day 11 Day 12
Day 13 Day 14 Day 15 Day 16
Day 17 Day 18 Day 19 Day 20
Day 21 Day 22 Day 23 Day 24
Day 25 Day 26 Day 27 Day 28

Are you a fan of photo-a- day challenges? Do you know of any other ones… If you leave a comment below..

I swear posting video’s on this blog lately has been hit or miss, but since I feel like it’s my duty to find yet another song that fits with this nail polish, I shall try again (I hope this works)

Well enough with Tinkerbell, let’s get down to the polish!!

20140301_214340As I have mention on this blog more than once. Pink is my favorite color, a short time ago I would have also called it my “signature color” but as a brown skinned girl light pink nail polish can be tricky… but apparently the trick is to make it holographic and it works like a charm. I couldn’t stop looking at this polish it’s absolutely gorgeous, I spent A LOT of time looking at my nails when I’m at the gym. And it seems like whenever I use a nice holo, people tend to complement me on my manicure. Let’s talk about how perfect this week’s pick as I type this entry. ILNP is releasing its Spring Collection!!! SO defiantly check it out because Barbara’s polishes sell quickly.

The thing about with holographic nail polish is that some of them require you to use a base and some don’t and since it’ been a long time since I used a holo. So I went to the ILNP website and did a basic search of other bloggers to see how to properly apply the polish and since I couldn’t find the answer….more like too tired to do a more in depth search I used a base… in this20140301_214419 case Sinful Color’s White on White, then added two coats of INLP’s Pixie Dust. The polish doesn’t take too long to dry and due to the megawatt shine doesn’t really require a topcoat… but since I’m super tough on nails I needed to add one anyone … and it didn’t effect the look of the polish one bit.

Wow this nail polish is super holoriffic! It’s almost to the point where it’s blinding… Something about this particular brand stands out than the other holo’s that I’ve used… the consistency of the polish it of the polish is nice and even and I didn’t have to worry about it clumping or being uneven on the nails. I’m not sure what more I can say about this fantastic polish that hasn’t already been said… so Pixie Dust rates a solid 8 out of 10. Go try it out and let me know what you think….

Until next time!!

Randomly Getting to Know You

1. Introduce yourself in under 10 words.

Girl, Dichotomy, Survivor, Doula, Bibliophile, Brain, Snarky, Potty-mouth, Dreamer and Adventurer

2. How did you find Friend Makin Mondays?

I’m not actually sure. I think I might have seen a link that was shared to another group on Facebook that I’m on… and I started reading her blog, then I recognized Kenlie’s story… I remember listening to her have a conversation with Kevin Smith on one of his podcasts… I remember thinking how sweet she sounded as a  person of size who flew Southwest and just being horrified by the entire situation…but I noticed that she doing FMM. And I had a just started my weight loss journey and had a tiny little blog that only had 3 followers (I think I might have  1 0 now … thank you very much!!  ) and I wanted to reach out and connect with others that were going through the same thing I was…. it was kismet (and yet another example of how things circle around)1899869_10152818205725995_705234473_n

3. Have you ever met any of your blog readers?

How said is it, I don’t actually know any of my followers…. but then again I’m not really sure who follows me…. see it’s that whole circle thing again….

4. How many states have you visited?

Three…. see question #6

5. What did you have for lunch yesterday?

I had homemade Chicken and Noodles that my mom made…. it was yummy

6. How many different places have you lived in?

I was born in Chicago, IL, moved to Milwaukee, WI then moved to Las Vegas, NV for grad school then back to Milwaukee, WI where I got my second liver transplant…. back to Chicago, IL it’s like a weird circle….

7. What’s your favorite color?

My favorite color is pink, but oddly enough I don’t have a lot of pink in my closet… I do have a LOT of gray clothing though…which seems a bit odd to me (Do people still consider gray to be a neutral color?)

8. Do you have any pets?

484781_10152121358565995_845496629_nMy cat Elmo passed away this past summer… I am thinking about adopting another pet this summer…

9. What would your ideal job be?

Getting paid to travel and write or blog about my experiences

10. Do you have any tattoos?

I don’t have any, and I’ve gone back and forth at different point in my life designing a tattoo and trying to figure out where it would go… but right now I’m like “nope”… maybe when I turn 40 I’ll get one

These questions were deceptively hard… especially that first one….. wow… I can’t wait to read everyone’s responses….

until next time!

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 58

So the Winter Olympics are currently going on, and ever since I was a little girl I have loved watching the Olympics, my mother always made it an opportunity to learn about the host country. But after all of the controversy regarding the conditions of the facilities, the overall unpreparedness of the  Olympics  committee, and the debt that are currently in as well as Russia’s stand on same sex relationships have really tainted my enjoyment of the Olympics this year… and I haven’t watched one thing… and I love figure skating, bobsledding, short track speed skating, and curling (I watch it because it’s hilarious)….. which is why my I’m sporting a little rainbow as well as the fact that it  goes with this weeks’ nail polish pick.

So apparently there is always a tale of woe… as I have mentioned so many times, it’s freezing here in Chicago and currently we have had over 60 inches of snow… with more snow expected this Saturday…. I swear we can’t get a break… so on Saturday we were hit with more snow… so that meant that I had to snow my car out.. AGAIN!!…. After I was done with the shoveling and before the full body ache set in, I noticed that 20140210_182416there were a lot of micro breaks in my nails (I’m not sure if that’s even a term); but it’s when you have cracks in the nails… but the nail hasn’t broken… so there was no way to safe them so they all got cut. It hurt my feelings to so, but I will admit that they look a lot healthier and since my brother said that I’m an aggressive shovel-er… it seems to be the best option.

Apparently the girl at the store told me this is a dup for Deborah Lipmann’s Happy Birthday which retails for about 20 bucks, and I hot Piñata-Yada-Yada for $2.  This makes my broke, cheap hurt sing with happiness, bottleyou know how much enjoy a deal… and this is the best one yet… it’s also nice to have a good friend at Ulta who wears a lot of nail polish… So PYY is a chunky multi-colored glitter . Now I love a good glitter, and I own a ton of them… and if I’m not mistaken this is the first time that I’ve used one for NPLClub… it’s a great way to extend you nail polish collection and you get oodles of looks with one bottle of glitter. This multicolored glitter looks good over almost any base color, and it looks great with a matte topcoat

Application is a little tricky because the clear base is so thick. You really have to be careful with making sure that the layers are even… so with a polish like this… less is more. So I applied two coats letting each coat dry completely before adding the next one; other wise you are left with a goopy mess that takes forever to dry. Like a lot of glitters with a thick base, this one doesn’t really require a topcoat. After the two I applied I was left with an amazing shine.

I will say that I was a tad bit frustrated with photographing this polish, it was always a glare, and I’m not sure if it’s due to the phone or the shiny glitter… but the glitters look a lot smaller than they actually are. After I took these photographs I put a matte coat on them and the glitter was still really shiny… even though the polish went matte..

Overall I like this polish, and it looks really good no my newly shorn nails, although the application was a bit tricky I will give this polish a solid 7 out of 10.

  Until next time……..

Nail Polish Lottery Club – Week 59

Today was a slightly busy day… I spent most of the morning at the oncologist office and the afternoon, dealing with the snow and trying to get home. So when I say that I was excited about doing my nails I mean I was REALLY excited. Once again… we have lots and lots and lots of snow… but tomorrow and the day after we are getting a slight warm up (40 degrees!!!! ….. and rain) And while I continue to dream of warmer weather and sunny skies… this week my nails are already there… something bright and sunny and cheerful….

But before we begin..let’s enjoy the stellar grooves of Heat wave singing “Boogie Nights”

Can we talk about these outfits …. PLEASE

For those budget fashionistas out there Walgreens currently have Sinful Colors polishes for sale for 99 cents, whenever SC is on sale I usually walk away with 20 or so polishes, but this week…. this week I swear either someone came to clean out the selection or some savvy sales person at Walgreen took all the good stuff…. there was nothing there and I left the store with only three polishes and a broken heart…. but man am I happy with the stuff that I got… this week’s selection is one of them….perhaps I will find another store and scope out there selection.

20140217_161904I can’t stop singing that song, and let’s be real… I hope it’s stuck in your head now to. I’m looking at this polish and I can’t decide if it’s pink or orange. So I’ve declared it a pinky-orange. I showed it to my brother and he’s like “it’s called coral” *rolls eyes* I guess that’s what I get for asking my art major little brother….  now that we have the color out of the way… let’s move on … I will say that I love the finish of this nail polish… it reminds me of candy, watermelon, flip-flops , and hot summer days with cabana boys names Jessie and Raoul….. okay not the cabana boys… but hey I can always dream. I usually shy away from colors like this because I’m not sure what it will look like on the nail as compared to the bottle, and as you can tell from the pictures it seems pretty much the same. Considering  that I’m still stuck in winter paralysis  and this polish had just amount of brightness to cheer me up (for a little while)

This polish is thin… it took 3 coats, but after looking it up it’s considered a jelly/’sorbet finish… so it takes a little bit more time that the average polish to dry, and the reason that it took 3 20140217_161930coats is because I wanted it to be opaque… 2 is fine if you can deal with visible nail lines…so I got 3 coats on my nails… waiting for them to dry; watching Teen Wolf…. one hour passes… they are still a bit tacky 90 minutes pass…. and darn it to hell there is a huge smudge on my nail… it sort of resembles grumpy cat. I should probably mention that the pictures were taken right after I applied the polish for there is not photographic evidence of said grumpy cat nail, Finally  at nearly the two hour mark  I applied my top coat (Sally Hansen’ Mega Shine) and the polish hardened and dried right away.

So overall it’s not bad. I love the color, I love the way said polish looks on my skin….the only issue that I had was the amount of time it  took to dry, other than that it was great. So this polish gets a solid 7 out of 10. If anyone has used this polish, let me know if you issues with the drying time or am I the only one who had issues….

Until next time,
